gilles villeneuve

I never saw the accident,
I think the today formula one cars won't crack this way throwing the driver out.

I almost feel sorry for the other bloke who tried to let him pass

The other driver was, I think, Jochen Mass, who was absolved of any blame.

Gilles team mate was Didier Pironi who has broken an agreement that whichever of the two led into the last lap was to be the winner.

The race before Pironi had has passed Gilles, on the final lap, when he slowed down.

This incident occurred as Gilles tried to take pole position from Pironi.

Pironi later died during and offshore powerboat race.

Gilles was brilliant. I saw him at the Britich GP. Almost as good as Senna.

Very sad stuff indeed when a racing driver dies doing what they love.

I have a series of crashes on my pc which changed F1 rules over the times, from the 60s onwards. Interesting in a weird kind of way.

What actually happened? If he went straight on how did he end so far away from the corner? Or if he ran into the other car how come it was overtaken by the wreck?

Mass was on a slowing down lap to enter the pits.

He never saw the Ferrari coming.

I agree we don't need to see it again it's a bit Morbid and I'm always amazed that they're allowed/left on utube/google etc. It must cause untold grief for the families to see the clip posted.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

I actually got his autograph at the 78 Brands GP. What do you suppose it's worth? He was the ONLY driver to give them, and waited patiently for quite a while as people waited in line.

What do you suppose would happen to you if you snuck into the pits on the Thursday nowadays??
