Car tax for 4x4's

im thinking of selling my MR2 and buying a SWB shogun diesel around 94-95 model but im worried about having to pay shed loads for the tax. How much is the tax on these or is it just the same as a normal 2.0l car? just asking because of all the recent car tax hikes on 4x4 recently and im unsure weather it effects older 4x4's.

doesnt affect old cars. Would be around £190 per year IIRC, unless its not gone up that far yet. Been a while since i had a big engine to tax!

£190 per year for my 2000 disco, I think it goes up to £215 from 2001 up to 2006 and then up again (£300?) from 2006 to date

Cheers

Obviously all this money we spend goes to the upgrading of the fantastic road system we have.

Deep breaths - buttons pushed - robbing government stewards at the bar.

Serves you right for having a Massive 4x4 Chelsea Taxi - Opps sorry the chancellor has mucked up again as far as I recall a Golf is not a 4x4 Chelsea Taxi.

So there you have it Taxation by a moron leads to "normal" people being punished instead of the intended targets.

I sleep well at night while I run my 1997 4.6l Gas guzzling Range Rover Thinking I only pay £190 in tax and G. Brown is thick

Call me cynical, but this is supposedly being done to discourage people from using gas guzzling vehicles in order to reduce our carbon emmissions? Seems to me that it's yet another way to raise money for the Treasury. I've converted my Landcruiser to a dual fuel system, and when running on veggie oil, am effectivley carbon neutral. Where's my tax break? Apparently Gordo doesn't even drive!?
