vauxhall main dealer problem

my cars been in this week for new spill pipes then back tuesday for injector seals then back again thursday for the managment light to be put out then back again today for a new egr valve, to save me the trrouble of driving over there again they sent a driver over with it

he called me asking where the locking wheel nut was as he cliped the curb and buggered the tyre

another phone call to the garage to sort that out resulted in bring it in tuesday, i'm not going to drive around on a space saver all bank holiday weekend so they said take it local get a new tyre and track it up and they will pay

heres the problem

i cant get he same tred pattern and dont want odd tyres or a part worn out tyre one side and a new the other

i think they should pay for one new tyre and 1/2 the cost of the other side but they wont have it so what do i do

1, buy 2 tyres and if they dont pay knock it off the bill they are sending me for the work on my car
2, just get one tyre and have an odd one
3, get the garage to up the bill for one trye and adjust it for the 2nd tyre and pay for it on a different bill

IMHO they only damaged one tyre, so it's reasonable to expect them to replace only that tyre. If you want two tyres with identical tread pattern or two brand new tyres, then I believe you should pay for the other. Sorry if that's not what you wanted to hear.

i would go over but i have a city link deliver at the shop before 9 and my shops 30 miles from the dealer and they dont have a tyre in stock.

maybe i'm just pi55ed off because they have been buggering me around all week.

On the plus side they owned up, a lot of places would try and claim it was already buggered.

Don't think you will get away with more than one tyre, though it might pay to push for them to look harder for a match.

Just throw a hissy fit and they will do whatever you ask just to get you off their back! My girlfriend is very good at that!

Iirc, it's illegal to have two different tread patterns on the same axle!

Find a friendly traffic cop and ask. If I'm right, garage will be duty bound to pay for two, or you'll be driving an unroadworthy vehicle.

you could try the tyre bias argument

you know where different tyres grip diffrrently causeing the car to pull to one side even when tracked

we had a sierra at ats when i worked there a few years back no matter how acuratly i tracked it it always pulled

follow that up with this car was intended to have this make of tyre when it was designed and tested

Me thinks you are thinking of Types of Construction. ie mixing Steel OR Fabric radials. In this case Fabric construction should always go on the front. It is not illegal to mix tread patterns other than the above.

Oh and for those that ARE old enough neither should you mix Radials and Crossply tyre across an axle. Radials should always be fitted to the rear.

its not illegal to have 2 different tread patterns.
to have a cross ply and a radial, or 2 different speed rating then that's another question
you can up the speed rating but never lower the speed rating.

i work in a vauxhall dealership.
they might end up paying for 2 tyres just to keep your custom.(tell them you will look for another garage to do your vehicle also as for the service manage that will help )
but they should only replace one as they only did one

Not illegal but its annoying.
If my tintop tyres wern't £125 each i would buy 2 matching ones if one needed replacing.

I think one for you, one for him.

Now you will have a good spare.

BTw: the costs off the bad repairing on the engine needs a talk too.

An even better idea for complaining causes if he can't sort out a satisfying solution for you then someone defo needs a kick up the arse. As for the tyres I agree with hellfire they should only have to pay for one.

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.
