cool project? maybe someday...
Guys,
Carefull: this is very much a Pie in the sky idea!
Looking at the Loremo car (http://www.loremo.com/index_en.php) i realised that it might be a cool project to try and build a commuter car that would
be really fuel efficient. Something like that loremo, actually.....
After a quick look around the Net, all I could come up with was the qriley tri magnum (http://www.rqriley.com/tri-mag.html) I'd think there
would be better alternatives available.
I think if its 3 wheeled and below 350kg empty, I could register it as a motorcycle in the netherlands (road tax: next to nothing!).
My brief design spec would be:
* 2 seater, with room for a bit of luggage
* max 0-60 time 12 seconds
* minimum top speed 140 km/h
* not a convertible
* heater, radio, etc...
* reasonably safe
* lightweight
* cheap
* super fuel-efficient (more so then a Prius by at least 20%, else: what would be the point, right?)
* Not diesel powered (I don't like diseasels....)
Who's gat a good idea they'd want to share?

Whilst I can't give any general help, the Prius is no where near as Toyota would have you think. Beating a new Golf diesel would be a much
better/harder/meaningful target. Also, remember that one of the main factors in fuel economy is the way you drive it! I'm told my bec should be
able to achieve 25 ish mpg. I have yet to see much more than 12!

The Tri-Magnum is nice, but Google the 'Badsey Bullet'.
Powered by a Yamaha 1200cc V4, 0-60 in 4.6 seconds and a claimed top speed of 150mph. Although I believe one was actually clocked at 167mph.
Only eight were ever produced but they look cool.
I was toying with the idea of making a similar body for the locost.
Of course it may not meet your mileage requirements.

That bullet looks sooo cool!
Like I said earlier, i don't want a diseasal engine, so the prius still seems like a decent benchmark (believe me, I know enough about these
cars to appreciate them). Are there any small 2-seater coupe kitcars out there (no no, not the banham bat please...)

The Prius is not a benchmark. It's a con.
A friends mate has a Golf Tdi (about 6 months to a year old) and he gets about 50mpg at well over the ton.
I modelled a three wheeler about 20 years ago (before Grinnal and co), and have been thinking about it recently.
Incredibly slippery, light with high gearing etc, I would aim to better 100mpg at 100mph with 150mpg at low speeds, and yes it'd be turbo
diesel.
And no, I'm not a fan either, but with 2 cars totalling over 8 litres and Grabber Gordon's taxes, I want something that costs nothing to
run for the mundane journeys!
