Locost Quad/ATV??
I have a crashed KLR600 engine and frame (bent) that i fancy converting to four wheels....
If I build front and rear chassis onto the frame to hold wishbones on each corner, use a small, chain driven (fiesta?) diff and shortened drive
shafts, combining Locost suspension to a bike frame what will it be classed as?
Whats the difference to an ATV and a car? Is it the solid rear on a quad, or the weight?
Anyone recommend a suitable small car with lightweight bits to use?

Have a look at Rorty's site. I think you should make a quad, like you suggest, but also bear in mind the original purpose of bike. I'm
assuming I know what a KLR600 is (a traillee of sorts), so think it should be a quad with very long travel suspesion for being driven over sand

Cheers, Rorty has some good designs on there and the Hammerhead trike is halfway to what I'm thinking of.
The trike with an ISR backend is what I'm thinking of, keeping it low and much within the original bikes width and length. Just the wishbones
sticking out the corners.
Obviously the 600cc single only has about 45bhp so I need to keep it light! Lightweight brakes and uprights under 10" wheels?

To go through Motorcycle SVA (MSVA) as a quad the power output must be less than 15 Kw (20 hp), otherwise it will have to be SVAd as a car and comply
with all the usual requirements we are familiar with.

That explains something then, I work for a Polaris quad dealer & the larger road legal models are restricted where as the standard off road ones
aint & they're much faster.
Of course it doesnt take much to remove the resticter.
45bhp in a quad or trike built for off roading will be plenty, you dont need too high a top speed because these things tend to roll over rather than
slide when you get to the limit & the sharp steering can make them twitchy. Not sure about a trike with IRS though, mabye it'll need a good
anti-roll bar.
