webber 500 carb set up.

Can any one recommend some good websites or articles on setting up the engine as I have my V8 up and running on a webber 500 carb.

It sound wonderful but I now need to get it set up as best as I can.

The exhaust seems to smell of petrol fumes- does this mean its too rich?

It also seems to have an amazing thirst for fuel…

Hi mate, im running the same carb as you on a 3.9
the only real true way of setting it up is on a rolling road. you need to get te right metoring rods there are many to choice from!
the main prob with mine is it runs far to rich on tick over and to lean on full throttle. i have tinkered with it to get the best i can without putting on a rolling road . speak to v8 tuner or RPI engineering soz dont have numbers but they are on the web.

I have the Webber 500 on mine. I believe the only way to set the carbs up properly is by changing the jets to get the fueling right with either a CO meter or on a rolling road...

The 2 screws on front adjust the idle mixture for either side of the carb independantly (so if it is rich at idle turn them down) but anything beyond that involves changing jets.

When I had mine setup by a V8 place here they discovered I was running far too much advance at tickover and was really rich due to that so might be worth checking your dynamic timing? (Also, just re-setup the timing on mine as I have just put the 4.2 back in and it was missing like a b***h when it was set right for the first few miles, runs beautifuly now...)

Hi Paul

Oil problem is now sorted.

It was the front cover gasket and an extra oilwawy in the cover to the block

Bit of instant gasket and 40PSi pressure appears

Next question - was setting up the tacho on veypor 2 today.

what tick over rpm should I expect.

The veypor2 has lots of settings so I have a choice from 600rpm 750rpm 900 rpm depending which settings I use on the veypor

My tickover is set at about 800rpm.

Sounds a bit quick to me but it is as the guys who rebuilt the engine set it!
