I'd have the houses one on top of another and call them flats with a common water supply separate electricity meters and no gas for safety

So her 'work experience' so far in life is doing cryptic puzzles.
Well Done.

You can't do it in 2 dimensions, you need 3.

Perhaps the point is, it can't be done (without linking between the houses). That not every problem has a workable solution? Otherwise, a bit of
a waste of her time really.
Unless she can't make the tea properly!

Maybe I have it wrong but when we have work experience folk (what's the best word for girls and boys??) I try to ensure they get a flavour for
what work is really about and how it differs from school.
I guess they spend lots of time at school doing pointless tests!!
I tend to wait until they become apprentices before having some fun
We were actually discussing this earlier. How we used to play pranks on trainee's but that the PC brigade had all but killed it off. From memory
though some of it was perhaps a bit too far.

You need to roll the paper into a tube, then join the ends to form a doughnut shape.

Good luck doing that with the ground though!

Well that's what he told you.
What he really means is 'I now have some time to go to the pub on Monday and work is paying for a couple of pints!!'
These youngsters are not as daft as they seem.

Heres one I did earlier when i built 3 houses on a doughnut.
Unfortunately we didn't have planning permission for the black hole, so the houses were pulled down

Easy to do, even in 2d, can't see what the problem is
The key with those problems is not to make constraints that aren't mentioned in the problem.
My Solution
All services on the same level underground.
