polo cooling problems again
following on from the thread below
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=69000
my polo has been running and cooling absolutely perfectly since i changed the water pump and then suddenly the water temp went up over 100 again
took header tank cap off and when car was started water filled the tank but no bubbles until i rev the engine there is a few but just for few seconds
while the tank level lowers but goes back to how it was when as idle with tank full.
there is no air locks and the water pump and thermostat are working ok by the sounds of it as fan comes on when it should and there is circulation.
any ideas could this be the head gasket damaged from the last overheating?

Some early Polos had a bleed valve on the heater tap under the plastic scuttle panel . If yours has one did you bleed the system?. Might be worth
getting a head gasket test done by your local garage? they use a liquid that changes colour when combustion gasses are present in a bit of kit that
fits into filler neck . Its also possible to check for hydrocarbons in the cooling system using an exhaust gas tester.

If your gas tester tests hydrocarbons just put sample pipe into the top of the rad/header tank . DO NOT put it into the water , run engine and if
hydrocarbons are present then head gasket has gone. This test will not work with just a C.O reader .
