temporary cover notes
Annoyingly my car insurance renewal is tomorrow and I don't get paid until tuesday so as it stands today I can only afford to renew by spreading
the payments and paying the finance charge which I object to. On tuesday I could happily pay the lot in one go, so anyone got any tips/tricks for
getting a temporary cover note and then cancelling etc to tide me over?
I want to make it clear that I don't want to drive uninsured but if there's a legitimate way I can get cover for the 5-6 days so my
renewal falls on a payday rather than end of the month at the worst time of year for me (ie just before i get my bonus!) it would be grand.
thanks again,
Ned.

Pay by credit card then pay it off when the bill comes.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

trying to get my finances in better order I only have one credit card which has a balance transfer on it with a 'fixed for the life of the
balance' rate so anything I spend on it will attract a high rate of interest until I pay the balance transfer off first (as it's at a
lower rate), the point of getting a 'for the life of the balance' card is that I don't keep topping it up and swapping it around but
actually pay it off swapping it always involves an admin charge of 2-2.5% anyway.

Depending on your bank, and your relationship with them, you might be able to get (or extend) an overdraft for a month.
Doesn't fix the problem for next year though obviously.

It is £10 per day though. So maybe don't use the car this weekend.

Sell something.
Sell someone.
Sell an organ.
Get another job.
Get a better job.
Rob the post office.
Forge some money.
Or as last resort, maybe ring up the insurance company and see if they can help you out.

Get the car off the road for 6 days and save the planet by cadging lifts / take the bus / walk / cycle. I fanyone at work complains you are late tell
them you are reducing your carbon footprint, if they look strangely at you tell them it stops you leaving black bootmarks on the carpet!
You could always talk to whatever passes for HR at work and ask for an advance on wages to pay your car insurance. All the old cover note scams have
gone since the insurance companies stopped the days of grace system and you end up getting a big bill for the period of the cover note.
The only other way is to go with a sympathetic broker who will agree not to present your cheque for a few days, this generally only works if you have
an established relationship and your busines is worth more than the paltry percentage they get for selling a car insurance policy these days.
Failing this it is back to billynomates ideas

i walked out of my house the other morning to realise one car had literally no fuel in it, and the van had no insurance. So i feel for your situation!
Cant tell you what i did sadly
I would suggest you get a mate to put it on their card for you, surely someone will?

Think I'll just go with the best option they gave me which is go with the finance/spread the payments so pay deposit on credit card to get the
cover then ring back within 7 days and pay the remaining finance and they'll only charge £20 rather than the full interest over the 9 months as
I'm repaying it early. I'll just have to live with the interest for now.
once again thanks all for the response.
Maybe next year I'll plan some holiday so I don't use the car for a few days to tide it over to the next month.
