Punto overheating. Please help.
Hi chaps, bit of a problem.
My GF has a punto, x reg 1.3. The other day the water temp warning light came on and the heater would only blow cold air.
I pulled out the thermostat and checked it. It wouldn't open. No problem, just fit a new thermostat which I did. Everything worked fine for a
day and now the light is back on and the heater is blowing cold air again.
Is a new thermostat likely to fail so quickly?
Is there something else that causes thermostats to fail?
The radiator fan still works.
Any ideas.

I thought of an air lock. Is there a special way to fill the system? There is a bleed valve on the rad but that is lower than the stat.

There is also a bleed valve on the heater circuit, but I think you can shortcut all the airlock checking and check for head gasket - they blow for a
past time, not what you wanted to hear, but I have a 1242 w reg punto and have changed the head gasket twice, once due to a defect in the head (20
thou skim sorted that one), and the second one when caught in traffic for 3 hours on the A30 on the hottest day of the year.
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

I'm hoping its not the gasket. Cos i'm the one that has to deal with it. I did find the second bleed valve and managed to get a lot of air
out. Hopefully thats it.
There is no water in the oil or vice versa. Also no steam coming from the head or exhaust.
Are there any other symptoms of the head going or gone?
