which wishbones?

used the car for an auto-test the other day and managed to bend a lower wishbone. does anyone know what type they are as all the ones i've seen so far are designed for maxi ball joints? also they appear a bit too weak to me, any comments?[IMG]http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g208/martin-c/picture006.jpg[ /IMG]

Very odd design of bottom wishbone. Got any more photos?
Of course you might be better off if you used a coilover instead of that piece of 1" RHS as the suspension unit.

The main thing to look for, when buying bottom wishbones, is the shape of the plate that supports the bottom ball joint.

The one in your picture has a straight inside edge, this helps to concentrate the stresses on the two tubes and helps them bend easier.

If you look at 'the book' and also Stuart Taylor motorsport wishbones you'll see this inside edge is curved; don't buy wishbones without this feature.

Look at this bottom wishbone;

I think those are a variety of the MK wishbones... I had MK wishbones that were similar and when they bent Martin Keenan made a new set for me FOC on receipt of the damaged ones. The new ones have the mentioned crescent in them to distribute loads and were larger diameter and thicker wall tube.

Cheers

They look like one off wishbones made to fit the bottom ball joints --- not sure what the ball joints are late Metro or Rover 100 ?

Wishbone design has been discussed at length note: Not only should the spring/ball joint plate have crescent plate ends BUT it should also be in line with tube centre line --- not on top of the tubes or below the tyubes.

thanks for the comments! i bought the car as an unfinished project; a chassis + pile of bits! several people have mentioned it being an early MK chassis with di-dion rear end. i don't know what the ball joints are, they were among the bits! i was hoping to get away just buying wish-bones, not ball-joints as well (its supposed to be a locost)

Old post, I know. "Bring out yer dead...."

The lower ball joints are Chevette, as are the spindles. The arms are 1" x .093" DOM tube. My Locost is in Canada.
