tin top problems

My tin top is really getting me down.

The car Hyundai Trajet 2.0 petrol (no laughing at the back there ….)

Problem.

When the engine last ran it was ticking. It then cut out, just stopped. Thought it was fuel so put some in and no joy, the engine sounds as if it is trying to fire but wont.

Had a man round and when you turn the ignition the pump primes the system and flows fuel.

With Plugs out there is a spark.

Man says it’s electrical, so get auto electrician out and he gives the car a clean bill of health electrically, says it’s flooding.

I’ve bought new plugs but what else could it be. If it wont start after leaving it 2 weeks it cannot be flooded.

I just want to get it started and trade it in for something else.

read somewhere that the vapour recovery system if it fails will allow liquid fuel into the cylinder (flooding ?). what is a vapour recovery system and what am i looking for?

Vapour recovery system uses an activated carbon filled caniter which absorbes fuel vapour from the tank and feeds it into the inlet manifold (controled by the ECU) when it won't affect running (on over run) instead of venting to atmosphere.

Its a requirement on production cars that we thankfully don't have to replicate!

Look for a black plastic box 6" square-ish with pipes to the tank and manifold via a valve.
