Marc

Earlier E46 330d's, around the 200/2001 mark are 184 brake and a 5 speed manual, this was upped to 204 brake and a 6 speed box in 2003.

Aye - there's a very good response here for various questions.

I've been on the lookout for a 330d touring, with a manual box - they're like rocking horse dirt for sensible money....

All the BMW diesels respond very well to chipping as well...

I've had an '02 plated 330D Sport (184bhp) for a couple of years now. I spent 12 months searching for one and eventually got this 3 yr old ex-BMW fleet car with 80k miles for £16k. It's now got 115k on the clock and i've just replaced the suspension bushes but other than that it's fine.

It's a great car in many respects but in hindsight i'd probably have gone for a chipped 320d instead. The lump in the front of the 330 is really heavy and i find the whole thing has a bit too much momentum when you're pressing on. It's beautifully balanced though, and quite playful too.

The BMW common rail engines also respond well to black box tunning "Rover Ron" developed a black box for the BMW diesels used in Rover & Land-Rovers with good results.
He is now marketing one for the 320 through to 530

How badly was i asking for trouble before when i said i'd had no problems with mine? Barely an hour later the engine let out a loud bang on the way to work and now i have a split in a mould line of my inlet manifold.

Shiny new one ordered from BMW this afternoon - £355! Available tomorrow. Fingers crossed i can still limp home tonight with the poor beast wheezing like an asthmatic donkey

The lesson i've learned: to keep my fool mouth shut!
