In a paper yesterday they implied it was illegal to remove a clamp, maybe cos you avoid the fine. Cant see why.
Anyone know why wheelclamps don't count as tampering with a vehicle?

I would suspect it comes down to who's levying the fine on you. A council may be legally in their rights to extract money whereas a private
(clamping cowboy type) outfit isn't.
Therefore removing a cowboy's clamp maybe perfectly ok but not so the case with an official body.
If you damage the clamp of course it's a different matter...
