HELP! Hiding my location on eBay?

Hi All

I've just put my trailer on eBay.

Unfortunately, my location is very clear and as I live in a very small village, the pikies will find me easily.

Can anybody tell me how to change my location quickly? I've hunted for the way to do this but can't find it. I'll have to pull the auction off if I can't do it quickly.

Apologies to any non-thieving pikies out there!

Take a wheel or two off and put it on axle stands - that way it won't be too easy to nick.....

That's what swmbo's dad did until he put a security post in...

Is it clear from the photos or the description? If photos, take the trailer somewhere else and replace the ones online

Can't you change the Ebay registration address to someone else's place? Even changing the item location would be a good start...

But ultimately whipping the wheels off and keeping them inside the house would frustrate all but the most determined of theives...

Any real buyer would understand if you had to put the wheels on when they turned up....

On your ebay home page on the left hand side under "My account" go to "Adresses" you can change it there,
Steve.

Thanks guys

I've tried changing my primary address but no luck. I Can secure the trailer but I'd rather not have Thieving Pikey Pete and his best friend Dorky (sung to the theme tun eof Bottletop Bill) nosing around here in the first place. I've also got a new caravan outside! There are only 30 houses in our village so dead easy to find!

It's not in your own settings you need to change but in that auction itself. You can change the location in there but if you've got bids you'll have more difficulty doing it!

The location is option is after Postage. It says Item Location, and the default is obviously your home location, but immediately below is an option in light blue saying Change Location.

Hope that helps!

Just change the item location? Should be enough.

Thanks guys

All changed, including my other auctions.

I didn't look under the postage section - I should have guessed the location would be there but as it's a bit big to post I ignored that bit!

Regards

Wyn

at least being what it is it will sell first time, so I'd still immobilise it well to make sure, its no 2p trailer!!

Lets face it, you're pretty mechanically minded, it won't take you long to remove the hitch from the trailer altogether, and put it back on in 5 days or whatever the auction is.

A word of caution to all in general - The latest weapon of choice in Pikeyland appears to be the flatbed with Hiab. Taking the wheels off, the hitch off or even putting security posts in doesn't work. We've just had a plant trailer taken from site this way!

Hi Wyn

You could tow it up the road and take pics so they don't give anything away, then put in the auction "viewing by prior arrangement only as I have to collect it from storage".

Can you actually see someone's address just from the auction though anyway, I thought only the winning bidder got sent it (which is bad enough IMHO), or were you worried about it simply showing the town name?

cheers
Chris

Chris

The name of my village (strictly a hamlet - no church) was on eBay and there are only about 30 houses and only one with a great big aluminium box on wheels outside (my wife thinks it looks like a shiny coffin!).

Hence my nervousness! It's also a case of having our caravan there and just generall attracting pikeys to a quiet, rural area. That said, my car has some not too subtle 'hidden' blue lights front and back and I have blue light colleagues next door and across the road, And nosey neighbours! The local scally knows well enough to stay away as my best friend/next door neighbour has nicked him before!

I've had loads of interest off eBay and quite a bit off here as well so hopefuly it'll sell quite quickly - the price is more than fair (there's a similar one on raecarsdirect for £2400).

Then it's time to find a box van that'll take a 13' by 6' race car, with a decent engine that'll tow a caravan..... !

Regards

Wyn
