Rant Time....
Sorry... its got to be done...
RANT ON
About 10 months ago I purchased a Tiger Cat E1 kit... Then purchased a nice 1991 Sierra to donate its guts to the project, and thought we were
off...Due to various house jobs that SWMBO wanted doing, its been a slow job.
But tonight.... Install new clutch, bolt gearbox to engine and hey presto..!! Lift it into the chassis...
Now after much swearing at the propshaft and catching various brake pipes (!) and other fun things, the engine and box are in...
So what is the problem I hear you say...? Well..... The alternator doesn't fit in the gap, as the top rocker arm is in the way... so shove the
engine over to find then the bike carbs foul the other side of the chassis... No problem, move it back a bit, but of course the alternator
doesn't fit anymore...
Never mind, I'll shorten the inlet manifold with the angry grinder...
So then, need to shove the engine back a bit so that a fan belt change is not an engine out job... But the gearbox fouls the tunnel.... so move
it back forward a bit, now got a nats knacker between the inboard springs and the waterpump but hey... thats life...
Finally, sit in the cockpit to refit the gearstick on the Tiger supplied remote change to find.... In 2nd gear, the gearstick fouls the handbrake !!!
I can't move it forward, as the water pump catches the springs...!!
I GIVE UP !!!!! Surely I'm not the first person to do this...?? Its driving me up the F%$£$%g wall !!!!
And please please please...
No-one suggest getting a bike engine.....
RANT OFF....
Thats better...

I know exactly how you feel - spent what feels like months trying to fit bonnet/nosecone to an early Robin Hood "My way"
Can you shorten the gearstick or try to straigten it a bit?

Wouldn't dream of suggesting a bike engine
You might consider changing your chassis for an Indy one though

Gearstick is as short as it will go - I removed it at the rubber joint...
Might just chop the handbrake in half...

Been there got the sweaty t-shirt, firstly ditch the tiger remote gear laughing shaft thing and get a westfield/rally design one.
Not sure about the alternator prob as im fitting zetec, chech some of the tiger build sites on tigerownersclub site that might help.

And dont forget you will need engine and gearbox clearances to allow for movement.

My first thought would be: if everything is now right then shorten the handbrake (as you've already mentioned!)

Hi Pete,
Just having the same problem with the Pinto in our VortX chassis - we're going to take out the original alternator (which is fecking huge), and
replace it with a Daihatsu 93mm one.

What alternator have you got fitted?
It is well known that the standard alternator will not fit, nor will the standard bracket! you need a small alternator and a home made braket, you
can also saw off about 10mm from the engine mounting lugs. i have a Denso alternator which is tiny and i have loads of room for it!
I know it alkways seems that you make one step forward and 4 steps back with these cars but, I am assured, it will all be worth it in the end!
