bleep test

I am starting to prepare for a possible career change and need to get a bit fitter!

One of the assessment criteria is to reach a certain stage on the bleep test or multi stage fitness test as its now known.

I dont have an MP3 player and im not going to hire an indoor area to do my training where i can take a CD player.

I do have a nokia 6300 and knowing nowt about phones was wondering if i could somehow get the bleep test onto my phone in MP3 or similar format so i can use my phone when im outside doing my training?

Any alternative suggestions welcome too! I dont want to go buying an MP3 player for it though as i would have no need for it afterwords

anyway it wouldnt make a good impression when scrolling through the playlist in the pub!

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

just practicing the bleep test wont make you any fitter, how long before you do this test.

If its to pass the fitness test to be a copper it aint hard. Try doing lots of interval training running between lamp posts and hire out a hall one night before you go to the test and buy a cd of ebay with it on. Its only really to prove you can do it easily on the day so your not stressed. If its for something different then yeah maybe you would want to train with it a bit more....Oli.

PS.
the bleep test is very tactical....its not simply a test of endurance or fitness.....remember that and you'll be fine.

Can't really help with the technical MP3 bit ... sorry. I'll give a bit of advice on training if I may though.

The bleep test is all in the turn - practice getting low at the turnround point and 'punching' off the leg. Sounds obvious but can be difficult to use the fast twitch 'explosive' fibres if your only training for endurance (and you're knackered)! As stated above, get yourself fartlek training to build base fitness. Plenty of core stability too; a strong trunk is the foundation your limbs work from. You can get a bleep test(MSFT) for sit ups also but I can't recommend it - it just plain hurts!

Don't worry about it too much if you're going for the police - from the guys (and girls) I've known to get through its not too taxing. This is not meant as a jibe against any policemen on here.

Dom.

if it is for the police i wouldnt stress about it. if you can run a mile and a half in about 10 to 12 mins the bleep test will be a push over. i know i got to level 11.3 at the 20 metre bleep test and was running the mile and a half at 9:15

cheers Davie

I used to get put through the bleep test all the time with the Marines - they have a bleep test for sprints, press ups, pull ups and sit ups.

Just doing the bleep test itsefl won't improve your fitness in the way you need (ultimately, who's going to ask you to run back and forth at an ever increasing pace?). But a big part of the bleep tests are being familiar with how to pace yourself just right, so it's definately worth finding a copy on CD and giving it a go until you;re comfortable.

If you need to improve your vo2, look up fartlek training on the web - that's pretty good (but hard at first).

Thanks Maclanahan and Jos,

I have a BSc in Sport and excersise science so know the theory and practice behind the training side of things, i wont just be doing the bleep test to increase my VO2 max, i will be doing a range of exercise, including fartlek training, cycling, rowing and swiming.

I HATE RUNNING!

Jos i will give you a call early next week if thats ok?

Im off to go and deliver my car to the new owner today so not going to be in the best of moods later
