has anyone tried one of them hdi head light conversion kits for there tin top and if so are they anygood and where did you get it from ?

There's loads on eBay but if your lights use H4 bulbs I think you will just dazzle. Single filament bulbs like H7 should be ok in theory.

I still haven't plucked up the courage to order a pair for my car yet

They fit any car with h7 bulbs in theory.

They are only legal if your car has clear headlamp lenses not the ones with the reflectory bits in. My mates just put some in his golf and They are well worth the money. Some of the cheaper kits the ballasts that control them dont last very long. Iv been looking into these for ages.
