Ultima on Top Gear track

just had this from my mate at Ultima!!

Top Gear Lap record

its interesting, as Top Gear have never invited Ultima to be on the show (due to politics involving Lee Noble and Clarkson, as far as I know), but they have now independently run on the top gear track, and broke the record on the first lap, which is quite amusing

No great surprise there, we'll just have to wait and see if a BRITISH car show will actually give some air time to an ALL BRITISH BUILT car (unlike Noble who build their cars in south africa) which is faster by a huge margin than anything else ever tested on the show on road tyres!!!

5 seconds <Rude version of blimey!!!>, that just humiliating to all the supercar companies. Being driven by the stig means it's all fair and above board as well.

Think Top Gear need to be shamed into putting it onto the show.

What exactly is the Noble Clarkson problem?

Sure 5th gear would be happy to put it on just to wind up Clarkson

They don't and its only me reading between the lines as my mate is always prefossionally guarded in his comments, but I don't think Lee sees eye to eye with ultima after they made it with what was originally his design, even though it is far removed from that now, and he sold the rights fair and square.

It wasn't driven by the stig though, it was driven by someone from Ultima at a guess, though I haven't spoken to them yet (will this eve, was prob richard or ted driving I would guess)

Noble is buddies with Clarkson, hence the regular Noble mentions on TV and in clarkys videos, and noble ain't buddys with ultima!

They will have to show it now, or pistonheads will make a public mockery of the tv show.

TO be fair to quote Ultima...

....Driven by Ultima’s own Stig..

So assuming that it isnt the same one.

Though I suppose Ultima’s own Stig may or may not have driven the lap as much as the official Stig.

Regards

Agriv8

Edited to add that after reading that It comes across really negative. SO :-

WELL DONE ULTIMA for keeping it british.

( apart from the engine and gearbox of course )

He drove a different line to the normal way the stig drives. Watch the line through the follow through. So wasn't top gears stig.

Would be intresting to see what he gets out of it. Could be that he can't drive an ultima as fast as ultimas own driver who uses it every day. Just my tuppence worth.

If its Richard driving, then he is an extremely good driver, but has never driven on that track before, so for me he has the disadvantage compared to the real stig, but we need the proper show to run it now for all to see!

We all know it will be the quickest thing round there, its just a case of what the winning margin will be.

WOW - well done Ultima. i know the lap is recorded as a hot lap, but smashing it by almost 5 secs indicates that they may be able to beat the record from a standing start in the 800!!! Now that would be the ultima(te) embarassment to the high cost Supercars. If Top gear did decide to show the car on TV then such a stunt would make a superb finale to the show.

It looked like a standing start to me....

Not easy to tell but I think so.

Cheers

Its just as likely one of the guys from Plans - they know the circuit better than anyone. I know them as they rebuilt my mate's Elise when I rammed it into a tyre wall.

its embaresment at top level anyway because i'm sure the pressure on them (top gear) is on from the automotive industries sow if they put the ultima on or another tiger double engined thing etc. etc. then i'm quite sure ferrarie woundn't send an Enzo to the show etc. etc. get the point???

Anyway the Ultima would be the best option in the 'beat the pagani zonda show' in wich the public could send a idea for a car that could beat it. The westfield XTR was choosen by then. (driven by the hamster)

The ultima could get in the show but my opinion is that the kitcar manufactures arent serious enough with their cars
look at that Ultima it has a dashboard/interior wich you cant compare to any normal car untherstand???

if it would be nicer alla ferrari/toyota etc. etc. then i'm sure it would be more car and less road legal race car...

Tks

I think they still meant a standing start by "hot lap" Darren! I think they were reffering to it being a hot lap, as in - the car had been round a few times and got some heat into the tyres and brakes etc.

If they had meant different I would of thought they'd of said a "Rolling Start".

One of the clips has been doctored.....

(And yes, I hate people saying stuff like that too).

Download topgearlaprun-3.mpg and then watch it verrrry closely around the 1 minute mark.

You can clearly see the marker boards on the right of the track jumping as the clips are joined.

Still a fabulously quick car though

sharply seen!

the mark is 1:03 where the left corner sign gives the feeling of the car getting kicked in the corner!!

strange, hardly to imagine some one would do that right???

anyway its a bloody fast car..

Tks

they won't have doctored it in a "make it look faster" way Zil, they have too much to lose to bring any of their records into question.

No idea on any of it yet as i haven't spoken to my mate yet.

The Datron data says much more than a video ever could.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before the car is officially figured by The Stig
