XMAS gift days for car fans?

Right, I want to book one of these circuit day experiences for my wife. I am hoping it might light a fuse in her and encourage her to join me on trackdays etc.

I have been looking and they all tend to have about 20 mins on the circuit in a ferrari etc. I doubt very much that she will even be bothered about a ferrari, so what car it is in doesnt bother me. I am after a day that is approx 1/2 day in a hot hatch type car for sensible money. A few years ago 3 sisters used to do one in MG's but they have now sold out and only seem to offer the same tosh as other companies.

Can anybody reccomend a decent day suitable to give my wife?

Tangerine dream (I think) did a really good day at Prestwold hall in supercars.

I know you probably wont want those cars and probably to pay that but they also run scoobs evos gti's etc

I wouldn't recomend the usual run of the mill type supercar days.

I had one booked for my 21st and it was extremely disapointing, it consisted of driveing up the airstrip. round a cone and then back again *yawn* and they even had fuel cuts and limiters etc if they thought over 4k rev's in a F335 was too much, or trying to get a little slide round the cones.

When we had a normal Javelin track day booked up at Elvington you could have an instructor give you lessons in your own car, and then you drive round on your own for the rest of the day, sempt a much better idea to me, you could also have a 2nd driver on track for little extra money.

There was a guy in an Aerial atom that was useless at the beginnnig of the day, after only about 1/2 hr with the instructor and he was about the fastest thing there.

May not be quite what you're looking for, but Caterham are advertising "Slalom" "Drift" and "Circuit" experiences. www.caterham.co.uk. 01883 333700.

I got mine a Lotus Experience at Silverstone last year. £99 winter deal, but you could go up until April.

She went out for two sessions in an Exige. Instructor said how good she was because she listenened instead of the macho crap 'watch me drive' attitute.

I'm still hearing about it a year later !

Well recommended.
