In car communication advice ?
Now at the top of my Santa wish list is a driver/passenger intercom system, suitable for use with full face helmets and maybe with an interface to a
walkie talkie/mobile phone ?
Any recommendations, motorcycle type units ok ? the battery powered ones how long do they last ?

I believe that the Sooperest Dooperest are made by Autocom http://www.autocom.co.uk/
But the price also reflects this, they can interface with Mobile phone, 2 way radio, MP3 player and passenger intercom - all at the same time (muting
one to prioritise another i think).
As a very cheap alternative maplin list some german made headphone/mic units with PTT (press to talk) switch, meant for bikes and can connect to most
PMR 446 units. PMR 446 are licence free short range units as used by motorcycle trainers etc. they range from cheap £20 ones to good quality
Motorola/Kenwood units.
I believe that there is (was?) also an Alan PMR 446 that had the facility for 2 headsets ie. you could take Driver to passenger via the intercom, or
Driver to other vehicle via the radio.
Must be honest though, I have no personal experience of them (other than as a motorcycle trainee) but there are plenty of websites that can advise.

I bought the locost lidl set for around a fiver IIRC don't know how/if it'll work or fit under the old skid lid but at a fiver who cares
oh and you can plug your mp3 into it as well. It's probably pants and it's a wired not wireless unit so SWMBO can't be turned off
(OH err missus) without her knowing about it.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

I got this set from Maplins
http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=10060&C=Maplin&U=SearchTop&T=intercom&doy=1m12
It's OK, but a bit fiddly to get the ear piece in when you are putting the helmet on.
Sound quality / battery life are OK.

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!
