how does this engine on ebay look to everyone?

ebay item 120192147014

ok, so bidding has ended, but i emailed the seller and asked if they would accept £150 for it as it was the starting bid, but went unsold.

this part worried me a bit though

it is collection only as I have no means to deliver it and it is located in a local Auto Repairer - Normal hours only for collection.

its just with it being located at an auto repairer. just seems a bit wierd. but like you say cash on collection seems ok. just as long as i'm sensible about it, and don't hand over any money without actually seeing the engine in front of me!

how heavy are these engines? I've got an engine crane, not sure it would fit into a small van though. would 3 people be able to lift it?

You will lift that with two good ens.

If my son was to advertise one of his spare engines that too would be at an auto repairers, that's where he keeps em and who's facility's he uses to fit/exchange them, seems believable to me.

Engine

I would be a little concerned as to why he had his original engine repaired rather than fit the engine he'd bought as a replacement.

Must have been told that his engine was FUBAR to have gone to the trouble of finding a replacement.

He has also gone to great length to point out " This is how the engine was described to me when I bought it" !!!??

Probably me being over carefull. But, been there, done that & got the T shirt

A little on the cheap side as well.

I would rather miss out on a bargain than be "Shafted " out of £150.

But then, thats me all over. .

^ hmm, makes sense too. thing is, i uess there's always a big risk like that in buying any 2nd hand engine. I will be having the engine stripped and rebuilt before using it.

£150 is cheap, but i guess if it turns out to be crap, i could always sell the bits to make some of my money back. I don't need the gearbox and power steering pump for starters. over £100 right there i reckon. injection system, ECU etc would be more. I'm planning on going carbs, but will see.

there's alwaysa risk in these things. hopefully i'll be lucky

Wouldn't touch it.

It's OK saying it did run and used no oil but the receipt will say 'as seen'!!!

^^^^^

All valid points but can be said of any engine or any other item on ebay, my replies referred to the "pick up from autorepairers" comment.

If it was what I was looking for then personally I would take a punt at it for the price.

My nephew just paid £150 for the 8 valve VX engine for his Calibra without a gearbox so it looks good to me.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

If you are going to be having a re-build session. It's got to be worth going for.

As you say. You'll recover most of your initial outlay selling the surplus parts.

One bonus. At least you dont have to part with any cash untill you have inspected it.

says he'll accept £150, so hopefully go down on saturday. people on here and on migweb have talked about getting XE engines for less than £100, so i don't think this is too cheap. but i guess you can take that which ever way you will.
