What is on the roads?

Taken from the local paper.

Cheshire Police last week carried out Operation Mermaid as a spot check of vehicles at Sandbach Service station supposedly to gather information on international terrorism & it's funding.

During the operation of the 21 commercial vehicles that were stopped

1) 11 were committting offences regarding roadworthiness, driver hours or overloading.

2) One 41t vehicle had no brakes whatsoever on it's trailer.

3) 2 foreign vehicles were found to have non of the correct paperwork for this country.

So from this small sample

1) 55% of commercial vehicles are breaking the law.

2) 10% of foriegn vehicles should not be here.

3) 5% may have a serious mechanical problem.

Admittadly a very small sample and OK the percentages may not scale up but it does make you think about what you travel up the M6 with.

And none of them were terrorists....

Such a lot of bollocks!!

Did anyone see the program on BBC1 @ 9pm the other night about traffic cops?

"I'm afraid I can't help you because I'm on terrorist duty" said the traffic plod who was in fact cruising around with a number plate recognition system on his car picking up people without insurance, MOT etc. Saying that's terrorist duty is like saying I'm doing lifesaving surgery when I freeze someone's verruca!!! And wouldn't any self-respecting terrorist try and avoid contact with the police anyway.... I'm not saying it's not a good idea to pull over people without insurance or MOT (or possibly dangerous cars) but come on!!!

Such a lot of rubbish happens under the excuse of fighting terrorism. Next they'll be saying the tax on petrol is designed to fight terrorism......

It is , no one will be able to afford to make petrol bombs or crash burning cars into airports.Thats why they are threatening to use the anti terroism laws to stop any fuel price protests.

It's true.....

And the fact that my postman hasn't delivered any mail for a week (not even the usual junk mail) isn't because he's a lazy fecker, it's to fight terrorism. Stop all those cunning terrorists from communicating via the post.

IT's so silly! Pathetic excuses.

Strange how the reason we're supposedly at risk from terrorists is because we wanted to enhance democracy and personal freedom abroad. As a result, our own democratic process is severely eroded (anyone remember a vote on whether we went to war unilaterally?) and our personal freedom and right to privacy are basically revoked.

We now have a situation where the Prime Minister changes without a vote, the right to protest is removed, we're basically tracked where-ever we go, we can be locked up for weeks without charge (under the grounds of terrorism obviously) and just to add insult to injury we pay ridiculous amounts of tax to pay for all this rubbish..... All they need to do is convert the prisons into Room101s (in my case playing Neighbours 24/7) and we're there!!

Perhaps it's a cunning way of fighting over-population. Residents of the UK will realise that they'd have more privacy, a more democratic process, and more freedom of expression if they moved to Iraq or Afghanistan

Maybe it's just about black gold after all

I'm all for them picking up uninsured and unroadworthy cars with ANPR but my concern is the rate of return for fines etc issued and the costs to the taxpayer to reclaim/gather these when people don't cough up.

Ned.

Hit the nail on the head there. It's a serious issue that the gov are threatening to use AT laws to break up any fuel protests.
Apparently there is a human right to protest, so which law takes precedence?

Golden Brown wont call an election anytime soon, he is living as a fraud, no one voted for him to be PM. I know some people think that we are voting for the 'party' but I reckon that the general public vote for the Person. The Americans know this thats why it's all about the individual.
Brown will find that the public opinion is against him. We need a more moderate gov.

VOTE PEDRO!

It's not strange, it's pretty obvious to me that the primary reason for the introduction of terrorist legislation is primarily to remove our civil rights and give the government more control.

The best way to deal with terrorism is not to frighten people with propaganda until they gladly accept the removal of their freedom, but to encourage people to stand united against it (if it exists). How on earth did the country manage during the IRA troubles with it's civil liberties intact?

The outlawing of protesting under the premise of anti-terrorist legislation is a dangerous step toward the eradication of democracy.

As Benjamin Franklin (probably) said: "Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety"

If you only give speeding tickets and don't check the hole vehicle you get this....

I'm sure it is representative for all the car out there. BTW there are not a lot Police-officers who know about the car's laws anymore.

Makes me laugh that they tell people on TV how they are looking for terroists.

Note to any potential terrorists: make sure you have an MOT and Tax. You wont get caught that way.

Read 'State of fear' by Micheal Criton

In summary, since there is no cold war the environment and you could say terrorism is 'Marketed' to keep us minions in fear

I watched the police program this week and the 3 copper in that 'Million pound' car looking for terrorists was pure comedy!!
