How Come?
How come I'm a 'bah humbug!' I live on my own and have very few visitors, in fact my mam drops my shopping off for me on a Sunday
and thats it (don't ask!). So I've decided not to bother putting a tree up as there's only me'll see it and I'm at work
most of the time but no I'm a humbug and everybody else is right. Christmas is far too commercialised with stuff costing waaay too much and
everybody just seems to use it as an excuse to spend too much and over indulge and it seemingly starts way back at the beginning of November
now. But no everyone else is right and I'm wrong, how does that figure?

I'm with you. Christmas is a 12 day festival starting on the 24th. Is that not long enough? Some people start on the 6th of November and
carry on for 2 months. At this rate, the season of good will will be a whole season. I saw some mince pies a few weeks ago, best before 30/11/07.
That's not even the same month as Christmas. And I hate Christmas songs. Carols are all right, its the jingly money making stuff. I hate
"Christmas" and would gladly go back 100 years and just have a week of it.

were you I'd piddle of to the sun for two weeks.
If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

Considering just how few people are religious these days, the meaning of Christmas is now just spending money, a bit sad really.
Why not try and organise a get together with other locost members at the pub or something like that. I don’t know if you’re a member of any other
clubs (I’m a member of the local R/C model plane and boating clubs a very friendly bunch) there’s loads of different interests out there. Cars can be
the most lonely hobby there is when your locked away you in your garage.
Have a look around where you are and see if anyone else is into cars, I’ve recently become friends with a guy who’s restoring really old vintage cars
just 2 minutes down the road, I never even realised that he did cars till I saw him pushing one out and he’s only lived here the last 12 years…
I liked living on my own, no I loved it! The piece and quite yet be able to play my music at 150db when it suited me (weird taste in music), stay up
to half three in the morning and not get in trouble, do the dishes days later bliss
I'm not being funnily like, but I know a lot of folk who used dating agency's, no really, just ask a few couples you know how the got
together...it surprised me.
Oh and Happy Christmas Mr Grumpy

"Christmas is a 12 day festival starting on the 24th"
Ah if only that was true - I saw tinsel and crackers being sold back in September!
It's just another money making, over commercialised excuse to get pished.
The irony is that it is supposed to be a religious festival, and yet confirmed aithiests are happy to join in along with all the other non
believers.
We seem to spend half the time visiting people that we can't be bothered with for the rest of the year, eating food that makes us feel ill,
drinking to excess and singing daft songs!
Bloomin Christmas - Bah Humbug. Roll on January
Cheers,
Raz

No no don't get me wrong. I'm not moaning that I'm lonely or owt and if I had a missus or kids then I'd make an effort but how
come people think I'm in the wrong? Its crazy. I am actually looking at getting away in the New Year when its all dark and sh1tty here and
people have used all their leave on Christmas. Moo haa haaaaa! That'll teach them

Indeed, but some of the more important pagan symbolism of the renewal of the year and return of the light still struggles through all the
commercialism and Christian attempts to hijack the occasion.

Every year our company makes a mint sucking money out of mugs in christmas grottos, from the first weekend of November onwards. What little enthusiasm
I had for christmas got lost by about the second week of november in the first year I worked one. At least I get to decommission (with gusto) one on
christmas eve. It's quite therapeutic
They even asked for me to stand in for Santa once, oh how I laughed

I totally agree about the ridiculous commercialisation. Christmas to me is more about family getting together, having fun, eating nice food and
relaxing.

I am not religious, far from it, but i have just enjoyed a really nice meal with the misses and daughter and a bottle of wine [half pi***d] but i
think xmass is the best time of the year, one and a half weeks off work[they pay] and to see my daughters face, even now before xmass day is
priceless. Bar Humbug to those who think otherwise, get out more.

See yeah I agree with you Roadrunner. If I had the wife and kids then yes I would probably go for it all but I haven't, I don't much
interact with my family and I don't get time off at Christmas so I'm just not playing. As for you Kipper well your just perverted My
original post was because of people like you. Getting all excited over nowt and saying anyone else is just plain wrong. You're a wierdo

What really gets me are the queues and crowding in the supermarkets... they're only closed 2 days, some only 1, so why stock up for a seige?
I also hate the fact that the shops see it as an opportunity to shift rubbish. I went into town yesterday, looking for a necklace as a present to my
wife. There was so much tat laid out for sale at stupid prices that I went home.
We've agreed that I'll give her an IOU, and we'll go to Hatton Garden in London in the new year. I've bought her some really
good stuff there in the past, either at a fraction of H. Samuel's prices, or more value for the same money. And it's a day out!
Bah Humbug indeed!
David
Oh - a Happy Christmas to all, if I don't remember to say it before the day!
