Tintop problems

Hiya and a merry christmas to all.

My neighbours having a few problems with her car and has asked me to take a look at it for her. Because she is gorgeous I agreed (more fool me)... but this one has me a little stumped.

The car starts fine everytime. But everytime she brakes at a junction the warning light on the dash comes on and the engine dies. Any ideas?

It's a "p" reg vauxhall corsa...... battery and alternater are both fine.

Who the f**K tightened this up!

Ignition warning light?? Is the battery moving under braking and losing connection?? Also check the ECU / fusebox / sensor connections etc as i would initially suspect a dodgy / failing connection is causing the issue.

Has she promised you an xmas kiss if you can fix it then??

Edited to say its a shame you are so far away - i'd have come to help you!!!

I had a similar problem on my first car but that had a carb. It was the idle tickover screw. I think the injection unit still has an idle tickover solenoid or summat.

Sticky IAC solenoid ?

(Idle air control)

It's very common on a modern injected car. Elder brother's Vectra had the same problem. Scooshing it in carb cleaner sorted it out.
Not a job for doing in the dark on Christmas Eve right enough

I think you are going to need to ask her if you can check her bush as it is surely causing the problem. Nipples (grease) also need regular maintenance and can lead to such problems as described.

Dampness can be a problem but i'd leave that for the new year!

just had this exact same problem on my aunts vectra, changed the idle control valve and all seems to be well now.

built a car, built a home, had a family. lost the family, lost the home, still got the car.

Howlor has the right idea, have a good look at the bush and nipples.

Take the ICV and give it a clean, wont cost anything to do that and may sort it. There is a breather hose from the cam cover to the rear of the inlet manifold that fills with cack - clean that out with an appropriate drill bit in your hands.
