tin top suggestions

Right Mrs Locoboy is in need of a new motor in the next 6 - 9 months.

Current Drive is a BMW 330D M sport with at present 105K on the clock, full leather etc etc.

Good points -

goes like stink and has a boatload of torque
She likes the BMW badge - im not convinced!
Handles pretty well
good fuel economy

bad points

tyres are a fortune and dont last that long (blame the driver!)
Parts are expensive (drivers mirror £300 inc paint!)

All in all she likes the car but since we moved into our own house things are a bit tighter than when she got the car so she needs to downsize in terms of montly payments.

She has a £500 allowance each month and currently is up to the limit +service/tyres etc. so looking to be about the £400 mark. or about £18-20k purchase price

Her comments were 'i dont want to compromise on poke.........'

So im looking for alternatives, 'prefere' a diesel but she could be sold on petrol if the rest of the car was to her liking.

Would possibly like to go to a hatchback over a saloon.

She was considering a Golf R32 so far.

In short it needs to be an entertaining driver and look pretty attractive to the female eye! It also needs to be 1yr old or newer as her work stipulates you can not have a car over 5 yrs old and she would be looking to finance it over 4 years.

So come on what have you got or what might you be able to suggest?

If it were up to me i would have a nice fiesta or the like and pay it off over 2 years and have the next 3 years of slapping an extra £500 a month in my bank and save it for a rainy day/another se7en build!

Who says women cant compromise

That would be 18k in the bank. You could buy the 12 month old BMW outright next time round. No interest charges on the finance then.

Greame,
Thats one thing i considered was a nearly new run of the mill car for run of the mill prices and getting it remapped etc

Im also swaying to the honda Civic type R too.

My point exactly but did i mention compromises............

Her reasoning is that she does 30-40K a year and wants something entertaining and comfortable to drive, i would be willing to be not so entertained for a couple of years and benefit from then on!

better delete my posts when i get home tonight before she reads your suggestion

Entertainment was causing points on my license doing 50k miles a year.
My compromise was less powerful car and keep my license.
Less temptation.

bought the wife a new cooper s, they are fun as long as you dont want to carry anything bigger than a laptop.

the options are very expensive and i had to put a stop to her ticking the boxes

she had the chilli pack (gives you aircon, Xenon lights part leather etc), upgrade to full leather, upgraded wheels, spot lights, bonnet stripes, works body kit, chrome interior tart up. (over 5K).

the 1600cc turbo gives 175bhp and feels fast on the road.

when the letter from mini came asking if we wanted the full works engine upgrade (£1K and 200bhp) i was reaching for the cheque book but the wife slapped my hand and told me to grow up

at least i have the mk its much much quicker

ditch

ps she does not like me driving it as i treat her pride and joy with out respect and just give it a sound thrashing

A guy at work has just swapped his Mk4 Golf GtTdi 130 for a Mk5 Golf GtTdi 170 and is amazed at the power difference leading to wet weather wheelspin in the first three gears!

His is a 3-door in metallic grey and comes as standard with darkened rear windows and BBS style wheels. In my opinion it is the best looking Mk5 I've seen, better then the R32 which I think looks poor on those oversized wheels.

Alternatively, an A3 with S-line bodykit would suit, but be more expensive. Both cars will hold their value well.

UPDATE that you may find amusing.

In my earlier post i said that women cant and dont compromise.........
I was right!

She test drove the civic type R and liked it and got as far as hovering the pen over the 'sign here' bit on the paperwork and backed out as it wasnt really what she wanted.

I came up with some more suggestions and she rang me today to say she has found her car.

A 56 plate 335 coupe with all the knobs and whistles..........................

hands up fellas ,

I FAILED
