Flue liner?
Any plumbers/DIY experts etc out there...?!
I have a ~1968 house, with a precast flue with vent brick on the roof. I purchased a gas fire to replace the old fire when we moved in. It has been
stored in the attic ever since.
My issue is one of my neighbours says they have had a nightmare trying to find somone to install their fire due to the chimney/flue. Can anyone shed
any light on this? The other neighbour just installed a stainless flue liner and had had no issue - what should I do? I don't mind the DIY, but
only if it is legally acceptable...!

not sure you can do any diy installations with gas, whether it be the gas line or the flue

If it's just a fire you may not need a liner with a precast flue, I would get some advice from the gas board if I was you.

No its not legally acceptable to fit either the fire or flue if your not corgi, but then it's not legally acceptable to do a lot of things, but
we do  What you have there is a class 2 flue, and only certain types of gas fire can/should be installed into a class 2 flue. Check the installation
instructions very carefully if you do decide to throw 2 fingers at the law, if you get it wrong the consequences can be dire.
BTW i'm corgi reg and i don't touch fires with a barge pole, especially if a class 2 flue is involved even with the right appliance they
can be a nightmare, flippin cobwebs can block them no bother.
P.S you can't line a class 2 with a stainless liner .

Oh dear 
I have the number of a friendly local Corgi chap, who deals only with fires, so I hope he can sort me out. I was hoping for a Locost solution
(obviously) - but it sounds like the wedge will have to come out!

I`ve bought a gas fire, collecting on sat. I will look at the cost of getting it fitted, but if it istoo much i`ll fit an electric one instead.
WHATEVER YOU DO, BUY A CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM. YOU CAN NEVER BE TOO CAREFUL!

If you are considering fitting it yourself..
With the weather conditions we've got that the moment, cold temps and gusting winds etc , buy some big smoke bombs for testing fires and flues
etc and try it.
These conditions highlight the worst that they can be, if your happy with it now then it should be ok the rest of the time.
If it had an old fire before that you intended to replace then that would suggest it was ok then.
