I'm prepared to get my head bitten off here but I say fair play and well done to them!

It's the duty on it that pi$$es me off.

i would like to bet that a lot of profit is from activities other than the sale of petrol and diesel.

it would be interesting to see a split.

they will be paying billions in tax and just think what the tax man would charge us if they did not make such big profits

may be mr IRS would up tax to 45%

ditch

ps i wonder if the employees have a profit sharing scheme....... now where is my CV

Sick of seeing the oil companies slated for the high price of petrol.

There is only one culprit for the extortionate price we pay for petrol and that is the government!!! The profit on petrol to the oil companies is around a penny and half a litre while the government takes around 70p per litre in the various taxes and duties (went up 2p late last year and is due to yet again in April!!!!). Overall profits on fuel are pretty insignificant to Shell as a whole - its pretty much a by-product to them!! The real profit is in the other chemicals and the extraction of oil around the world (North Sea oil is another cash cow for the government which they dont go shouting about!!)

The profits may look huge but typical BBC news got their facts wrong again saying its a new record for a British company. The full name of Royal Dutch Shell is a bit of a clue!! They are just a UK listed company and those profits are global not UK.

Shell will not be boasting such profits very soon, due to the cost of decommissioning their old platforms, many of which are literally falling apart.

Why shouldnt they make a small profit?? The government are making almost 50 times more than Shell from petrol so why dont you blame them for profiteering instead???

If it's any help to your kama I do. They have become completely addicted to the revenues and can't give them up. Doubt the next lot will be willing to do anything either (whichever bunch of shysters gets in).

LOL you got that right matey!! The opposition are always good at slamming the government for their policies but how often do you see them give something back to Joe public when they get in themselves without sneaking some other equally profitable tax in somewhere!!

I see there are now calls for the government to curb Shell's profits by introducing a Windfall tax - as if they arent getting enough tax already!!! They would just end up driving companies away IMHO!!!

I work for the scum bags, was promised the world and a career with shell. Then two years later dumped like a piece of dog poo, or as they like to call it TUPEd. Shell will try to get out of the decomissioning of platforms by selling them in the late life, however that being said the money is already set a side for decomissioning, however no one has ever removed concrete leg platforms which shell own a few off.

I worked for them also. Your right about they way the dump you, I can't say I was very impressed at all with the company, too big and disorganized. Old dead wood hanging on to the jobs at the top and sod everyone else.

As for the concrete platforms, I worked with the engineers who are looking at the decommissioning and few had any hope that the platforms could be removed. They’ve sunk so deep in the mud and were never intended to be removed or detached from the piles, plus there is no access into the oil storage tanks to clean them out if they were to propose blasting them down to form an artificial reef. Another Chernobyl scale mess.

The really worrying thing is that Income Tax was brought in as a "Temporary Measure" to pay for the Napoleonic Wars.
