Tin Top Wiper problem
Help. The windscreen wipers on my VW Passat (1999) have started coming on at random, the only way to turn them off is to remove the fuse.
Any ideas what the problem could be? and how to fix?
It started happening after a day of snow last week, if that's any help?
Why do they call Port Harcourt "The Garden City"?...... Becauase they can't spell Stramash.

Sounds like something has shifted position inside the wiper motor switch gear, perhaps due to ice jamming the wipers? I'd open it up and check
nothings come loose
Their quite simple inside.

Insulation worn on the wiring, with intermittent contact? Perhaps where it goes through a hole in the chassis/bodywork?
Just a thought...

Had this on my 97 passat.
Assume this is the front wippers.
After buying the expensive control relay ( that did no fix it ) I have this if you need to test yours
The issue with mine was corrosion on the wire that connect the dash loom to the car loom. Have a look behind the pannel by your right ankle while you
are driving.

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look at the wiring and switchgear tonight.

This is very irresponsible advice. I strongly recommend that you pull up, apply the handbrake and switch of the engine first

Oh check that the area where the battery is is ( and wipper motor ) is not full of water ( or sploshing about ) the drain holes do become blocked with
leaves.
