Looking for a wedding photographer in North Essex
My son and his fiancée are planning to get married next year, and they are looking for a professional photographer to cover the event. All
they've found so far are photographers who want around £1000 for a selection of photos that look like they're designed for Hello! magazine
- not what they want at all.
They're looking for a traditional photographer who can do the 'family group', 'pictures of the bride and/or groom' - all
the usual stuff.
Can anyone recommend someone in North Essex? (the wedding is in Long Melford).
cheers,
David

We got married in North Essex (Castle Hedingham) last May.
We used Gavin Woolard (www.reportagephotography.com)
Not cheap but he's a nice chap and the pictures are nice.
The after care isn't so good and the reprints are stupidly expensive (£10 each for 5*7!!). I think his packages range from £1200 up to £2400
(which includes photography on the day up until last dance and a rather nice album with 100 photographs).
The other person who we almost went with is
Steve Tarling

Also had some very nice photographs in the example folders at the castle. Not sure what their aftercare is like.
In retrospect, I'd only get a photographer who was prepared to give me a fixed price which included giving me the negatives or digital images.
That's what my Sister did and iits so much better. Trying to get photographers to make changes (crop pictures, change colour balance etc)
afterwards can be difficult.... If you've got the negatives you can do whatever you want, give people reprints etc....

Perhaps i can help.
I only do the odd wedding but have 30+ years as a pro photographer.
I think i know what you are after and have just done a wedding for a collegue who was happy with price and job.
I dont book jobs until the year its in but maybe put me on your list of options closer to the day.

I was *very* impressed with an album I saw recently of the wedding of a mate of my other half. I would never normally be interested in a wedding
album of someone I hardly know, so was very suprised when I found myself taking the album for a closer look rather than just glancing over the
mrs' shoulder.
If you're still making a short list I will happily find out the chap's name for you? They're based in Suffolk, in the southern
part, so probably not too far to travel for North Essex!

This is the guy...

No idea how prices compare, as I've never had to arrange a wedding photographer (and hopefully never will!). However, as above, I was extremely
impressed with how good the album was from both a technical and artistic perspective.
If I'm ever stupid enough to get married, this will be the guy I will use!
