On the 24th of May 2008 I'll attempt to swim 10 miles none stop at the Taro Sports Centre in Petersfield. The 640 lengths are going to take me
around 6.5 - 7.5 hours to complete.
My son, Joe or 'little Stewpot' was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) a year ago. Its a condition with no cure (at the
moment). Joe is 6 in a couple of months and to look at is just another normal boy who enjoys running around, kicking a ball, getting into mischief.
Sadly though his muscle cells are slowly deteriorate and there's nothing we can do about it. The trend with these boys is that they lose the
ability to walk aged 11, not many see their 20th birthday.
However, the mad scientist out there are so close to finding a solution. Trials have started on boys to slow down the effects of DMD. Muscle strength
has even increased in other trials. We and all the other parents of Boys with DMD live in hope that a cure is just around the corner so many boys are
running out of time but the research cost money. That's where I, we need your help!
All money raised will go to the 'Action Duchenne' charity.
