Thinking of getting an evo......
Right, for those that know me, this won't come as a great surprise, but I'm thinking of getting a new/different car!
The missus currently has a 330i on a Y plate, but wants to take her bike test. This is fine, but I'm not letting her have a bike only to leave
lots of car sat on the drive for 6 months of the year. The up side is I get a few grand to spend on a new toy car! Well, once mine are fixed anyway.
So, once all has been sorted out, I'm thinking of getting an Evo. I'd like an Evo VI, but funds will probably mean it's a IV
instead. Does anyone know of any horror stories lurking out there to catch me, or are the cars fairly straight forward? I know parts are expensive and
servicing is every other day, but since I'd be getting rid of my 3 toy cars that won't be much of an issue.

I've got an evo 8 and I love it. The running costs aren't too huge if you are handy with the tools and do some of the servicing
yourself.
Personally I would steer clear of any model before the the V.
The IV is know to have a common problem called crank walk and also the pistons are not all that strong and ring land failure is also common.
Crank walk is where the crank wears the thrust bearings and crank & case so it has lateral movement. First signs are that the engine damages the
crank position sesnor (behind the crank pulley) and it doesn't start.
For either of the problem the easiest option is a replacement engine from a V to a IX.
Have a look on the misubishi lancer register for more info. there is a evo buyers guide you can download. if you cant find it let me know and
I'll send you a link.

I would dearly love to Ned, believe me, but I don't have anywhere near enough money for one. Well, not one in decent nick anyways.
ko_racer, cheers for that, that's precisely the kind of thing I need to know I've joined the evo uk club site, but I've not been
verified yet, so any links you can supply would be much appreciated. Should I find a cheap one with a wonky engine, is changing them over a difficult
job? Or is it basically a plug and play swap?
