Anyone know much about setting up SKY TV?

Evening all,

I need some help setting up my sky box. It is downstairs in the living room and works perfectly, but I'd like it to work upstairs in the bedroom too. It has worked before but when I replaced the TV downstairs and moved the old tv upstairs, for some reason it stopped working in the bedroom, its probably down to me plugging the cables in the wrong holes somewhere but non the less, I'd like to get it working again.

The way I have it set up is as follows.

Sky cable to Sky box
Scart out to DVD Recorder then to TV
RF out (From Sky Box) to Wall mounted aerial plug (Downstairs)
Wall mounted plug (Upstairs) to Bedroom TV.

There is also an aerial plug that comes out of the wall with the sky cable downstairs and I don't know what to do with it, at the mo its plugged into the Sky box 'Aerial In'.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Mark.

If your tv upstairs is running off the rf from the sky box you need to ensure that the rf is coming out of rf 2 on the sky box and you will need to re-tune the analogue stations to find the sky upstairs.

There's loads of room for error there. Assuming the wall sockets are directly connected, have you tuned the new upstairs TV in to sky box?

I've just found a site that has also mentioned connecting into RF2. I was in RF1. The other problem is that the RF power was switched off which I've now switched on (hidden setup menu on the skybox). Scanning for channels now.

Wish me luck

Maybe change the RF channel number in the installer menu and manually tune the TV?

I tried a manual tune but didn't work. What do you mean by change the RF channel number?

If its any help this is a basic diagram of how my system is connected.

Well the missus has just gone to bed so I can't mess with the TV's any more (even tho it was her idea).

I'll try again tomorrow.

Thanks for your help guys. Think I might have some luck by changing the RF Channel.

Thanks again. I'll let you know how I get on.

Your diagram is correct. Is the red light on the sky eye link? You do need a 5v continuity running through the cable and some of those cheap plastic connectors wont work.

edit to add:

Have you ever had this working? You have to use digital co-ax rather than cheap cable.

Well it lights up if I plug it in to the RF2 downstairs but not if I plug it in upstairs (with the RF2 going to the wall), Which would make me think that there is a cable fault. But the TV reception is good If I plug the aerial in downstairs to the wall which makes me think that the cable is actually ok?

Yes, When I moved into the house the previous owner left his sky box behind. This worked with the magic eye. Then when we had the box replace the eye stopped working but the sky could still be viewed from upstairs.
Then when I replaced the downstairs TV and moved the existing downstairs TV uspstairs, it all stopped working upstairs, but in the living room everything is ok?

If the eye works when plugged in to rf2 and the channel changes then I would plug it in at each step. I.e at the end of the cable that goes to the wall, then the wall socket upstairs and then on the end of the final cable. At least you'll know which bit is going wrong.

Jon

EDIT: Unless that cable you weren't sure about is in actual fact the cable that joins to upstairs. Off to bed now - good luck!

The one I mentioned was the cable between the wall socket downstairs and the wall socket upstairs.

I'm off too, Try again tomorrow.
