I'd say someone stepped onto the zebra crossing without waiting for the cars to stop. (thats what your supposed to do) and the Prmireas excellant brakes stopped the car before the others who were too close could.

Ditto to Nib.

Peoples driving standards are appalling, the police seem ONLY to be interested in speeding because the government says they must, because it earns LOADSA money, and because its easy. Anything else is toooo difficult to prove, doesn't earn money and gets no brownie points for the chief constable.
People are also encouraged to take more risks with their driving because the modern features are marketed in such a way that the drivers 'feel' safer. What people forget is that the laws of physics are finite and from the best available conditions, things can only get worse. Slower reaction times, less grip, distraction, tyres not at/in optimum condition, brakes not in optimum condition, etc, etc.

I could go on for a loooooooonnnggggggg time about driving standards.............................

Id say that the front car has stopped to drop somebody off on the zig zags (as its too close to the kerb) and either the next car hasnt seen an oncoming car or someone crossing the road when they have went to pass and done an emergency stop right into car one.
