Tin top choice/dilema
Hi All,
£4k for a MK2 Renault Scenic with about 60k miles on it.
Or,
£6.5k for a MK3 (new shape) Renault Scenic with about 15k miles on it.
Does it justify the extra £2.5k.
We change car about every 3-4 years so in theory, the MK3 would be worth more for a trade in when it's due.
Cheers,
Pat...

I work on the assumption that all car are worth half in 3 years.
So the 4 k one will of lost 2K, the 6.5K will of lost 3.25K
Running cost are approx the same

If you hve the money then go for the newer car - someone else has already paid the big depreciation hit on it. If it's a case of borrowing the
extra then go for the older one - 60k miles is really very little these days (even for a French car )

I'd go for the newer one. I tend to follow my old man's advice - about 6k is the right money to spend on a tintop. It's already
taken the main hit in depreciation but it's only maybe a sixth of the way through it's (reliable) life, so the theory is that 6k is about
the best value-for-money price point.
Complete rule of thumb, of course. But £2.5k for 45,000 extra miles ahead of you looks like a bargain to me.

With Renault diesel beware of turbo problems, change the oil at least every 10000 miles and use fully synth and let the engine idle for 15-30 seconds
before switching off if the turbo is hot.
Usual caveats about french car electrical systems apply -- check everything is working.

Wont make much difference. They will both be just as unreliable.
