Bone Marrow

Anyone had a bone marrow biopsy?

How bad is it?

Liam

I have a mate who is now in full remission who went through all of this with the bone marrow biopsy. He'll never tell you it was the best experience of his life, but suffice to say he regrets not one tiny little scintilla of the treatment which he endured because getting better was the only possible outcome.

End of story.

We're all thinking of you.

thankyou, still scared though.

BUT chemotherapy/bone marrow biopsy can not be worse than recovering from the operation i have just had!

onwards and upwards

Liam - I've had a couple. As said above, they did smart a bit but they were not as bad as I had worried they would be. Like you I'd just had an op. It would have been nice if they'd done the bone marrow when I was asleep!

And I had chemo, although luckily I didn't take it too badly and wasn't sick etc with it. It all seems a bit frightening/daunting at the time but when you look back on it it won't seem so bad. All the best.

Hi Liam,

Never had one but involved in quite a few.
Didn't look the most fun way to spend 20 minutes but it didn't look the worst thing either.
If you're worried you can always ask for sedation- I used to routinely give IV midazolam for chest drains and stuff like that. Zonks the patient out and even if they're a little bit awake the drug-induced amnesia means they'll never remember if it did hurt.
Probably unecessary for a biopsy though from what I've seen.
Hope it goes well.

I have had two. Not the most fun I have had with my pants around my ankles for sure....

The first time I had it done the doc had a student with him and narrarated the procedure for her. Twice. Once before and again in a step by step fashion.

Bastard.

Honestly, it wasn't nearly as painful as having lymphoma cells in my marrow though.

ATB,

Brian
