Ok this makes for great viewing, but isn't it all hot air? Don't we need a CEC v BEC race-off to finish the question once and for all...?

After all, these cars are about going fast and having a laugh. What else could you judge it on? Practicallity? No chance, it's a 7. Reliability? No chance, it's a 7. Pulling potential? No chance, it's a seven...

So how about it? Ten BECs, ten CECs. One day, one track, loosers get the beer in.

This argument is fought out in real life every weekend at a hillclimb or sprint track somewhere.

Those of us who go regularly know that there is more than one possible outcome.

I'm afraid on a race track and on a £ for £ spent ratio there would in 90% + cases be only one outcome.

Now if your talking ultimate top speed then the outcome would most probably be the other way around.

Just check out the 750mc lap times for RGB's v's kits.

It needs a mixed course - a hill-climb, a track event, a sprint - with 100 miles of ordinary roads between each venue!

let's see who's bright and shiny after 100 miles through the finest roads that the Midlands can provide!

Dave, on the road due to speed limits there would be nothing to choose, lets face it non of them are slouches but I just don't buy into this especially if you are not going to go into it £ for £ spent tuning a stock engine, otherwise there will always be an exception to the rule either way.

As for the 100 road miles how far is it to Le Mans from here ?

A std CEC will not overcome a std BEC until speeds in excess of 3 figures are reached, the speed limit on the road is 70mph and the CEC will have to be something other than a pinto x flow or the likes, maybe a VX red top would do it ?

A std CEC will not overcome a std BEC on most UK race circuits, the corners get in the way.

There will always I am happy to concede be the exception to the above but in 90% of cases that will be the outcome I'm afraid.

Bike engines are for babies. Why else would they need cradles?

CEC is manly like pounding on drums, hitting things with hammers, being sweaty and having mud/oil etc on face and clothes.

Oh dear god - this is all going to get very funny

For the avoidance of doubt my car makes me smile even though it's not the faster / lightest / cheapest / etc. therefore it's by far the best in my eyes - BEC or CEC if your's does that for you too then I guess your car is the best as well.

Still doesn't stop the very amusing debates on here I hope so for the avoidance of further doubt - I won't be swapping out my 6cyl anchor for anything made by clairol anytime soon!!!

I like an nice car that I can drive without industrial ear defenders or RSI from changing gear 12 times per roundabout.

And I can reverse into a parking space.

At the end of the day, who gives a toss.

I'm seriously toying with building a bec with removeable Indespension units at centre point and tow ball at the front so I can tow with Deimos to trackdays!

Deimos should have all the performace I want for the road - without needing to actually bother changing gear. Whereas a bec might get me a bit more involved.

Seen bec at Brighton Speed Trials and they're certainly quick, but they don't sound a patch on a V8

Enjoy the argument peeps - I'm off out to the best place for steaks on the planet. And no, I'm not telling you where it is!!!

how many of you have driven both on circuits and roads?!

I know both feel very fast after a break from kits. I know both can go far too fast for the road. I know both can be unreliable.

I also know one was significantly faster, but the other was much easier to drive.

You are never going to be the fastest at a trackday, theres always some goober with a big turbo/wallet.

As an aside, the main drawback with BECs is that you cant really let your mates drive them. It would be like letting them fly a helicopter when they have only flown fixed wings previously.

I also know whats half built in the garage, with a 60kgs engine.

As you may have guessed, I was only teasing....

In an ideal world, I would have 1 BEC and 1 CEC lined up for use according to conditions and my current mood. One wild and reckless, the other cool, calm and collected, depending on my whim at the time. And I'm not saying which is which!

I'm sure most people on here would rather have a cec and a bec but mo
st of us only have the space or money to have one so have to choose one or the other. Personally I'd love to have a bec but cos of my house/drive layout it would be too much hassle without a reverse gear. Yeh generally the becs are faster and 6 speed paddle gears would but a hoot but practicalities dictate that for now I've got to have a cec. If ur into track days mainly yeh go for bec. I don't see why u all have to choose one side or the other and argue.
P.S. where does the kickstart in a bec go?

The good news for me (crap racing driver) is that they are a lot easier to drive so less chance of being in the wrong gear at the wrong time!
