Lydden Circuit
Being an old git I remember the very first RallyX in 1967 at Lydden. Bill Chesson, the original owner developed, his circuit over the years from grass
track to a tarmac.
I have seen all types of motorsport there with some incredible racing memories in the last 50 years with some drivers going on to be world champions
such as Damon Hill. I have also sprinted and driven the circuit myself many times.
When the Bisset family bought the circuit from Bill, being a Rally X family great things were expected Nothing happened and he sold it to Mclaren who
in turn promised great things, they could not get planning and then leased it to the ACU. The circuit was looking very run down and in need of TLC.
Then along comes the Rally X driver Pat Doran, who is the new lease holder. Already in a very short space of time he has made many changes, new
stands, fences, tarmac surface in the pits and new race contro buildings, with many more improvements to come.
Bill Chesson would be so pleased with Pat's work and his exciting future plans. It's just a shame that Pat and Liam, his son, had such
crap luck in the racing today. Pat crashed out and Liam lost his gears. If you live near the circuit join in on some of the track days or just go and
watch the racing, it's great.

Great place and now once again owned (leased) by a true rallycross enthusiast.
Remember watching Johnny Welch pitch Ollie Arnesson on his head there in a european round many many years ago when we used to go there a lot.
Gollop 6r4, rennison rs 200 ,welch astra x trac, tony bardys mini.
Oh the good ole days.

I have great memories of lydden as a kid, my dad used to race in rallycross in the late 70,s early 80,s so i am very glad pat is in charge next
challenge is to bring back the euro championship.
It used to be the only paddock in the country that had a pick your own blackberry facility in the toilets

Hi it's good to hear that the improvements have been carried out. Especially the tarmac paddock area. And stands for the spectators. Which must
surely now make it the best viewing circuit in the UK for a spectator.
Lets just hope they have not done away with the small cafe/food stall down in the paddock. One of the best all day breakfasts around in the UK
paddocks .
Good to see someone putting something back into their sport. Well done Pat Doran. I am sure it will be greatly appreciated by all 750mc racers who
are there in a few weeks 5-6 April.
Cheers Matt

I've visited Lydden for years, watching the Rally X (in the 80s) and lately the 750mc events.
It's great to hear they are opening up to track days this year, I've already planned to do my first of the year there, on 26th April.

Hi but have they been given the licence to do the food in the replacement food establishment.
If not my 4.5hr journey to lyden will seem to take longer without the thought of the breakfast in the morning. .
Right where to start with the petition and where's them bits of wood and board to make some placards.
Cheers Matt

Great circuit. I have fond memories of racing bikes there in the Lord of Lydden and later working on Gollop's 6R4.
