Heating and Ventillation q - not car related

Ok, hypothetical question.

You have a room approx 25' x 20', with a 360 kilowatt sunken furnace in the middle.

Above the furnace is a canopy with a 15" "chimney.

The building is concrete frame with roof.

There used to be fan extraction of heat, but fans got melted in a fire and hole where they were got blocked up by new building.

There is a door into the room (from outside) which is approx 4.5' wide x 7' high.

Fans are being looked into, but I have suggested that the centre of the roof, about 2' either side of apex, be removed and raised by a foot, so we still have the roof but with a big gap (obviously the raised bit will have louvres or suchlike to prevent water ingress).

Ceiling height in centre approx 14'

Given the size of the door and hence free movement of air into the room, and the suggested "hole" in the roof, do you think fans will be necessary, given the thermal created within.

Looks forward to your calculations

Very detailed situation for a hypothetical question

Can't help with the calc I'm afraid, but if this is industrial (which I'm guessing it is since we're talking 360kW!) then surely there will be laws governing what ventilation is required.

I'd go on the theory that if it needed them before then it will need them again.

For volume of air changes the fan will change many times over what the equivalent free air grill would.

Is the Furnace gas powered? if so surely there must have to be puropse provided permenant ventilation for the combustion air for the burners.
