Experiences with tin-top insurance companies?
My wife's insurance policy is up for renewal soon and as we thought that Direct Line's quote of £125 for the comprehensive policy, £25 NCD
protection and £21 legal cover was a bit steep for a Daewoo Matiz that does less than 5000 miles a year, we thought we'd shop around.
Found 2 good quotes:
"Budget" (aka Co-op) = £129 for the whole lot
"Sheila's Wheels" (aka HBOS) = £139 for the whole lot.
All other things being equal, both of these policies have a better product than Direct (e.g. courtesy car, which is extra from Direct).
I was wondering if anyone has had dealings with either of these companies, and whether their service was reasonable?
cheers,
David

Have you done an online quote for Direct Line aswell. You should get "new customer" discounts all over again?? I reckon they might come
out a bit cheaper. Might be a few quid extra but there's got to be a reason they're the biggest by far?

Direct line have been faultless for some years, we dont even shop around now for both our tin top insurances.......so basically you pays ya money and
take a chance with the cheap ones.

If by budget you mean these guys:
http://www.budgetinsurance.com/
They will give you a great quote first time but the next time it will be terrible. I argued the price every year for 7 years and each time got loads
off. This year they took the mick with a quote of £350. After a bit of confused.com that went down to £175 with elephant. I never made a claim with
budget so I cant comment on that aspect. They have a South African call centre with some rather foxy sounding young ladies manning (should that be
womaning?) the phones, apart from that I would struggle to recommend them.
Confused.com did the stuff for me, very cheap quotes and I have not had any extra junk calls, spam or junk mail. I would recommend at least trying
them to see how your prices compare.

Have always found NFU best (no joke !) Phone them direct. You must live in the sticks no big city post codes.

Everyone's saying the sort of things I expected - I might just discuss those 2 quotes with Direct Line and see what they say... If they offer
something off their quote then we may stick with them.

Just to mention that AAA who I was insured with when the Falcon had its little crash couldn't have been more unhelpful if they tried. At
first they valued the car at an outrageously low value 2k or so when it was agreed before at over 7k. When I get an independent valuation from the
owners club the insurance company tried to throw the whole thing out claiming I'd interfered with their processes, what ever that meant. Finally
when I threaten to sue them in court they gave in, all this took about a year and a half and there was never even a dispute about who was at fault
(the other driver by the way )
All in all I could have not been more p!ssed off with the whole thing. I live in internal hope at an asteroid falls on their office.
