It was probably high enough when he started towards it - I'd guess that the bridge minder lowered it too soon, and ships like that aren't fitted with ABS either!

looks like it was in holland... maybe the captain was high enough when he started towards it

Well it's a lifting bridge that was up when he started going through and down when the high bits needed to go through!
