Hi all, went to my localy ford dealer to get a part, and was standing and wondering is there any place you can get all the part numbers for a serria
from? so you can give them the part no to order.

Most of the Quinton Hazell catalogues have a cross reference for the manufacturer part number. Obviously this will only help if QH also supply the
part you are after.
I sympathise with you regarding Ford parts department, the one near me are also useless.
Ford: "What is the reg number of the car"
Me: "Er I have no idea as i don't own the car i only have the engine. But its from a 1992 Xr2i"
Ford: "Sorry we need the regestration number"
Me: "Eh? (restraining self from going off on one)"
If I can't find the part number that im looking for before i go in, I have now taken to looking up an equivelent car on the net thats for sale
with a reg showing. Then using that just because i can't be bothered with the hassle.

I get that from one of the guys in mine
the other says (when he sees me walk in the door) "Is it for a kitcar again ?"
Me: "Yeah, try looking up a [insert car here] today"
Ford: (turns screen round) "which bit"
Me: (point) "that one"
Ford: "We don't stock that"
so helpful enough - but still usless, so now its the last place I'll try before getting a scrap one

Well i am going to mine 2mor, to pick up the part, i will see what he says. they all ways ask for my reg and i all ways give it, but it all ways says
"not found". so then they ask for the chassis no, so i give him the vin plate. it all is good to see there face.Lol
I as ways get that we do not stock that item. but they have got a few parts for me from germany.which is ok but my local car spare shop is rubish, the
bloke would not expected there is a dfferent gasket for the efi model, than to the normal carbed model.

There used to be 2 good motorfactors here - one did all the normal stuff (its still going strong) and the other mainly engine bits
unfortunatly the place that did the engines closed a year or two ago
but not long before then I went in for valves, garkets, etc for my 2.0 pinto - and they had 3 sets of everthing on the shelf - even reground s/h
cranks, good s/h efi conrods and an efi head (they stocked them for the stock car boys)
my engine builder stocks 2.0 pinto stuff (for stock cars again), but some of it has to come from burtons etc - so its not that cheap - but at least
its in stock
do you have any engine builders near you that you could try ?

I order from ford. at 11o'clock came in at 3o'clock. I know a person with a garden fully of pinto's and then a barn fully of them as
well. so when i need a used part i go and see him. For engine builders a mate of mine rebuilds engines a lot and i get parts from him and help. As
well he is a frist class welder.

sounds like you'll be sorted once you've trained the parts dept. not to ask you for a reg or a vin
assuming they have the same software as the ones up here - all they have to do is pull up the model, age, engine size etc - it only take 30 secs
then find the part you want and it might give a few options (ie 1 for normal sierra, 1 for cossie, 1 for 4x4 and 1 for ABS)
the guys in your ford dealers must be really lazzy

The older guys at Dovercourt Fords Chelmsford used to work there when it was fully Ford owned spares department are super helpfull and spend time
getting all the parts cross referenced, if they can't get it then i usually walk away with a fist full of part numbers.
Suprisingly cheap as well.

Ford dealers Haynes of Maidstone are top people. I go in with a pic of an Escort engine mount (taken off here ) and he says " Oh that - sure
