Cheapest veggie oil?

Went to the tesco's last night to fill up with Pura veg oil which has been 56p/Litre, the buggers have put it up to £1.07! Hows that for inflation?

Where is the cheapest place now? Macro or supermarkets? Indian haldi shops?

Cheapest place has got to be wholesale suppliers. I wonder how much chip shop owners pay for theirs or where they get it from?
Ive seen vans deliverying fish etc around here - seem to recall seeing 'Collins' on the side as a name - i wonder if they sell it.

Some here, scroll down. Pura is listed. Might have to buy a pallet full and get it delivered to local shop though!

simple go to the local chippy and ask them where they get the drums from. I can see sales of Tesco’s oil kind on plummeting and if Asda has any sense they should reduce the price of theirs

Not inflation world wide shortage --- partly due to speculative buyers manipulating the markets.

Also look out for a big hike in the price of indian and chinese meals --- price of rice has went through the roof due to poor harvests, rat plagues destroying crops and massive growth in demand in china.

Last time I looked it was about 70p/litre at Costco in 20litre cubees.

Also Bookers had 1litre bottles in 15 bottle boxes that worked out about the same as Pura (but without the funny looks at the checkouts in Tesco) so ~56p/litre

To be honest though it was just too much of a faff and mess with the one litre bottles (and loads of plastic to get rid of and sore fingers from opening the lids) and the nearest Costco to be would realistically take 1.5hrs to get 20litre cubees.

There was a closer place that did it for 82.5p/litre in the same 20litre cubess.

But on a Merc that did ~35mpg vs a far quicker BMW that does ~50mpg it just wasn't worthwhile.

So my veg experience only lasted a month.

I would consider going back if I can buy big containers locally for <70p litre. Or filtered WVO for cheap.

What car are you running Coozer?

I looked on Ebay and used oil is about 60p a litre, last year i was buying new oil for that.Morrisons is now about 95 p a litre in 3 litre bottles and so not worth using.Im considering changing to a petrol car with LPG but the price of that seems to be on the up as well.

Plus you've got the expense and hassle of a conversion where with the veg (veg oil price feasibility permitting) if you pick the right car you just whack it in and go with no real difference in MPG or performance.

I definitely had a drop in MPG with LPG from about 35mpg to mid 20's. This was with a VAG 1.8T lump. At the time LPG was more than 1/2 price so a VAG 1.9TDI engined car doing 50mpg was a better option and to be honest it was nicer to drive (similar BHP figures but a shed load more torque so you didn't need to rev the nuts off it).

I once saw a Clio 172 with an LPG conversion. If that did 35mpg on gas it would be good But not that comfortable or well built and very expensive to insure.

If this year is loads better for crops etc and price heads back down towards 50p/litre for new SVO and diesel stays high (or higher) I'd be seriously tempted to give veg another go.

But I can't be bothered twin tanking so you'll still back to either a late 90's Merc (heavy and mostly auto) or a PSA 1.9XUDT engined beast with a Bosch pump so a 306 or similar.

Not my ideal choice of car.

Still you can't have it both ways.
