A level DT project... what do you need?
Right guys.
I built this for my AS Design Technology project:
But the main issue is that I didn't really have a 'client'. The client was me... which doesn't make for an interesting
folder!
So for my A2 project I'm looking for something challenging and interesting to do for someone else. That doesn't necessarily mean that
person has to buy it off me at the end... I just need someone I can be in communication with throughout the project, get some information on and get
some opinions from. Obviously being in my area would help as you could come and have a look in person and try it, but it's not critical with
internet/email etc.
I'm experienced with metal work and not too shabby at the old wood work, but the main criteria is that it has to interest me and I have to enjoy
and want to make it. Got access to a lot of equipment so that shouldn't really limit anything, and it doesn't necessarily have to be
complicated.
Note that things that interest me mainly involve cars ;D
Challenge me! ;D

I have got a challenge!
How can i copy the lateral en vertical curve of a
rear wing to a tube....
i will post a pic.

Did the evaluation of the project above mention that if you stopped a bit sudden, the steering column would go through your throat ?

It was either that or your balls would end up one either side of the support

This was my A2 DT project.....Powered by a 1.8L subaru engine.....sounded good!
All designed on CAD
Was an absolute mission of a project and didnt get me many marks because apparently it wasnt enough of a "system".....go figure....

How about an electronic handbrake system using actuators, and an electronic paddle shift system. I'd go for both of those things.

Errm - I'll take the throat option 
How about designing a mobile phone with keys that a normal sized person can operate ?
When it receives a text message, it must automatically reply at 2 am with a voice saying " I am terribly sorry but your message is completely
incomprehensible. Perhaps you could write a letter ? "

That's a bloody good idea! I need to get my arse into gear with the Locost anyway... gives me a good excuse to take it into school

i was thinking you could design a way to get me to finish my car this century !!!!
To what level of effort are we looking here?
I'm sure lots of peeps would be interested in a rear handbrake caliper and matched disks that fit under 13" wheels - although I imagine
that would be more a case of mix and matching parts and making up the odd bracket.
Inboard brakes perhaps?
(can you guess what i'm working on at the moment?)
how about a mechanism that converts a standard H pattern gearbox into a sequential patterned one.
i'll go and take my medication now.

Just make sure the actuator system is lighter than the traditional system.
From when I did my DT A Level (14 years ago now), you have to solve a problem, rather than just come up with something flash.
My problem is that I want to pare down the weight as much as possible and keep the interior as uncluttered as possible - so a switch and actuaors is
the answer (take the weight of the sierra handbrake lever and cable and it's quite hefty)

Hiya phelpsa
My son Chris was in a similar position and after a lot of thought and consideration, he built the Special as his major Design Technology major
project. This was against the advice of his tutors but he stuck to his guns and got an A. This is shown in the Introduction to my website. I cannot
attach a picture in this category.
He went on to race and autotest it and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Best of luck with whatever project you choose.
