paypal concerns

I sold an item 3 weeks ago to a zero feedback winner on ebay.

He paid instantly by paypal but my paypal account says it is still pending.

I have not sent the item out yet but how long can this take?

Worst case i had was a "standard" payment came through as an echeque and that cleared after 6 working days. If it still says "pending" then i'd hazard a guess that the direct debit payment that paypal take has bounced so you dont have cleared funds. Drop the buyer an email to see what they say - might be Paypal but more likely the buyer

Don't bother with an email, just file an unpaid dispute.
This will save you a lot of waiting time.
A dispute does not affect them until there is no response etc and you close it.

I've had this happen before whereby the payment is pending unti you accept it. Tends to happen when the payment is sent to an email address other than the one on your account PITA it is as well as there seems to be no free way to transfer the funds. Might not be the case here but could be worth eliminating.

echeques can take up to 10 days or so to clear, but not 3 weeks. It's either chase the buyer or file unpaid item dispute as Martin says.

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

Could it be he is waiting to verify a new account? You have to wait for them to send them 2 amounts to your account for security numbers??

Paypal have started holding some payments until the buyer leaves positive feedback, if it's an expensive item and you're a reasonably new seller then this may have happened to you. Clicky.

I've also noticed that eBay are about to force all sellers to accept paypal on every item. It's as if they don't actually want people to sell anything of value

Eeeek!!
The buyer is hardly going to leave positive feedback is he?
Given that the seller won't even have sent the goods yet because he's waiting for payment first!!
Tw*ts!

Thanks for the advice guys.

I have gone into my paypal account and there is no option for me to 'accept' this payment.

The status is 'pending' and the anticipated clearance date is the 18th of April.

According to the paypal details for the transaction the guy sent payment on the 30th of May!

Guess i will have to wait and see if the anticipated date creeps back or not.

The idea is that you send the item and when the buyer says he is happy with it you get your money.

It's not a standard policy and won't happen on many transactions, it's just for when the seller is for some reason deemed 'untrustworthy'!

It's a farce, it's as if someone high up in eBay has this mental block which makes them think that the only dodgy people on eBay are sellers and that buyers never manage to pull a fast one

It's all very well trying to offer 'buyer protection' but if sellers keep getting treated like this there won't be anything left to buy...
