newbie to this lark

Hello everyone. I'm thinking (actually my girlfriend is!!) about building a kitcar. It wants to be a road car with a roof!! Also needs to be at the cheaper end of the range. Does anyone have a good suggestion for a simple first time build.

Thanks

First Things First...

Welcome to the fold fellow potential locost-builder!

You'll find everything you need to know here on the numberous links contained on this site... as a Kit Car - the choice is entirely yours about whether it's 'roofed' or not

I guess the first cars I can think of are Ginetta, Marcos etc etc to the other end of the scale Ultima. The choice really is entirely your's!

Happy choosing!

Hi Kevin, Welcome

The word 'Kit-Car' encompasses a very wide range of possibilities.

Are you up to building the frame yourself and sourcing all of the components from a donor car and the scrappy and making the rest yourself? Or are you looking for a ready-built frame, finished panels, etc. and are simply looking to bolt it all together?

You probably need to set a budget or a timeframe, evaluate your skill level, your available tools and workshop area and work your way into your options from that angle. It's very positive that you have support from the female in your life. They can make or break the project.

One other thing would be that having the manufacturer fairly close to you is a strong plus. Just hop over when you have a problem or question or need to buy a part.

Best of luck and maybe some of the UK builders can give you specifics regarding companies in your area.
