Any builders out there?
Does anyone know if there is a technical term for the kind of sheets of perspex or lexan that they have on the lower half of walls in hospitals etc to
protect the paintwork?
We've got painted walls and they're getting scuffed from chairs and greasy from people leaning on them
I know the easy answer is to paint the walls once a year but the partners aren't keen!!
I'm keen to find the right term so we can contract it out- otherwise I can see the next sunny weekend I'll be spent lexan'ing the
surgery. Then again, think what I'll be able to do with the offcuts!! Bullet-proof sidescreens...

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Perspex, on plexiglas in the states, is a brand name for Acriylic.
- Also Acrylex, Acrylite and Acrylplast. Polycast, Plascryl and Lucit.
Simularly Lexan is the GE brand name for Polycarbonate. Makrolon is also a brand of polycarb.
Although there is a whole spectrum of qualitys grades for each, in general, polycarbonate is the better material, and the more expensive.
For your job i would say acriylic is proberbly good enough. For general use the main disadvantage with acriylic is that it behaves more brittally than
polycarb. But other than the need to take care when drilling holes, and not overtighting screws, that should be an issue.
- Potentally the right grade of polycarb would be harder wearing and more scratch resitant, but you may well not see much diffrence anyway, and the
cost of big sheets is almost certainly prohibtive.
As for whether theres a brand name assocated with wall covering work/material i dont know.
But if you ask for a covering of acrylic or perspex sheet your unlikly to get laughed at. Thickness of sheet used will have a large bearing on the
cost of the job.

Try searching for Altro Whiterock.
http://www.altro.com/en-GB/product/browse/7/
It's not cheap, about equivalent to tiling, but should do what you want.
I can get you a price to supply and fit if you want
