What were they called?

Hi all,
I know that just before or early into world war 1 the royal family changed their name to windsor as it was more British than their actual German name but what was their original German name before they changed it?

Oh yes......but tops at multi-tasking here!

Also.....finishing off 'Order of Service' booklets for sons wedding next Saturday, whilst altering in 3 x pairs of trousers for 3 'little-ones' for next Saturday.......whilst doing a bit of 'admin' on here, and also searching for some citronella smokeless lamp oil (no luck yet) and printing out some maps for guests to get from church to reception............

BTW one of the little-uns had that same question for me last week as a homework project.....

Oddly enough a chap at work, his lifes work is to compile the family tree of the royal family, apparently he can trace in the lineage to most significant figures in modern and ancient history from them.
jsut some offthe top of my head, the majority of American Presidents, Count Dracula type fella (father of Vlad the impaler), Ghengis Khan....
