Friday Brain Teaser
Okay, he we go!!!! Prepare to blow some neural fuses!!!
3 blokes rent a car for £30.
They each put down a £10 note.
When they take back the car the man in the hire shop says "oh I made a mistake, it's only £25, so here's £5 back"
They decide to split the change so swap the £5 for five one pound coins, they each take a pound each, and give the man a £2 tip for being honest and
telling them.
Each man handed down £10 and got £1 back so that's £9 each.
Three * nine pounds = £27
Add in the two pound tip = £29
where's the pound gone?
ps HEALTH WARNING- if you see smoke coming out of your ears stop thinking so hard and advise people close by to retreat to a safe distance.
ppsAnd if you think that's clever you should see the way my accountant makes all my income disappear in outgoings. Not..... Sadly........

its an old one that, and rather simple im afraid
but to sumarise, they gave a total of £27, of which 25 went into the til and £2 into the mans pocket 29 and 30 never came into it!

Why should the total amount the men pay, plus the amount they have given as a tip add up to 30? It shouldnt.

The £30 is very much part of the answer.
But the £29 isn't........
And it should add up to £30

£29 isn't part of the answer at all, somewhere (i'm not feeling well wnough to properly explain why, my eyes are too sore) the £3 of them
and the £2 for him is getting swapped over. thats where the £1 goes.
what does come into the answer, is £25 + £3 + £2 = £30. end of

No - read what I said. The total amount the men end up paying (27) plus what the guy recieved as a tip (2) shouldn't add up to 30. i.e. that
29 shouldn't be 30 at all, so the 'where has the 1 pound gone' is a meaningless question.
That's the power of this 'riddle' - the fact that the question has been asked makes you look for a clever answer when there
isn't one - the question was a trick. For example say the guy said 'oh it's only £20, have a tenner back.' The men take £3
each and give a £1 tip. So the men have each spent £7 - total £21, plus the £1 tip = 22. Where's the £8 pounds gone? The answer is what £8? -
as I said the sum of what the men pay plus the tip shouldnt be 30 - there's no missing money - it's a trick question.

Well it should and it shouldn't
£30 = £10+10+10 = £25+ £2 tip + £1 + £1 + £1
£9 + £9 + £9 = £25 + £2 = £27
The trick comes in here
£27 = £25 + £2
so £27 = £25 - 2 true
Not
£27 + 2 = £30 false

Is this one of those teasers like counting your fingers down 10 - 9 - 8 - 7 - 6 on one hand and then adding the 5 from your other hand and equaling
11?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

The £27 = £25 car hire + £2 tip
The other £3 is the money back
