Anyone know much about digital radios for cars?
I've got my new van ready to go on the road but it needs a new radio. It would seem sensible to go for one that picks up digital as well as FM
but I know little about them.
I heard a while ago that the format that digital broadcasts in may be going to change which would make some radios obsolete, did anything come of
this?
Up until now I've used a CD auto changer when not listening to the radio but it's likely I'll get an Ipod or similar to store my
music on & hook that up to the radio so what features should I look for to include that?
Thanks, Kev.

Hold on for a while DAB in cars isn't really a stable market yet, for moment better to go FM and get a unit that takes MP3 CDs and if
possible has either a USB connection or SD memory slot.

Quite an interesting thread for me too. Iv been thinking about getting DAB for my car but in the form of an add on unit. You can get these little
gizmos that stick in your windscreen and conneect up to your head unit.

I've got DAB in my car and its very good - in UK. It needs a compatible aerial and a DAB processor as well.
I'd go for a radio/CD which is mp3 capable - you can get 200 odd mp3 tracks on a CD - and which has an ipod input. The bees knees would be one
that allows you to control the ipod from the head unit but a simple aux-in would suffice.
My radio has a 6 CD changer but its not mp3 compatible (that would give 1200 mp3 tracks)
It also does not have any aux-in capability (more ) so I've added an FM modulator to get ipod tunes into it.

Spose it depends how much you are wanting to pay.
I think the DAB standard is due to change in the next few years so I wouldn't spend hundreds!
I'm sure someone else will pop up with a link...

I have a Sony CDX-DAB6650 in mine. It came with an external aerial and I payed £99 for it about 3 years ago, may be a bit more now.
Its been superb, makes FM redundant, plays CDR's & MP3's, has an aux input etc etc. Powers my component door speakers real loud.
Check it out!
Found this article about the new DAB V2, It mentions not changing until FM is switched off so will be years away from now.

Cheers, fellas. I'm thinking of spending little more than £100, I wont be entering any sound-off competitions & I listen to proper music
so nothing outlandish is required.
I did'nt know anything about needing a different ariel, I'll have to look into that.
I may end up following Britishtridet's advice until I sus out the pro's & cons & what I want. £40-50 will buy a basic FM job or I
might even have something here that'll do the job if that's what I do for now.
